About Atomic Semi
Atomic Semi is building a small, fast semiconductor fab.
It’s already possible to build this with today’s technology and a few simplifications. We’ll build the tools ourselves so we can quickly iterate and improve.
We’re building a small team of exceptional, hands-on engineers to make this happen. Mechanical, electrical, hardware, computer, and process. We’ll own the stack from atoms to architecture. Our team is optimistic about the future and we want to continue pushing the limits of technology.
Smaller is better. Faster is better. Building it ourselves is better.
We believe our team and lab can build anything. We’ve set up 3D printers, a wide array of microscopes, e-beam writers, general fabrication equipment - and whatever is missing, we’ll just invent along the way.
Atomic was founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller. Sam is best known for making chips in his garage, and Jim has been a leader in the semiconductor industry for the past 40 years.
About the team
The packaging engineering team is responsible for developing a novel method to rapidly produce semiconductor packaging devices. We design, prototype, and build our own fabrication equipment, and develop novel processes. We have assembled a specialized team, skilled in machine design, physics, and chemistry, to achieve this.
About the role
As a Laboratory Technician at Atomic Semi, you’ll work with a full-stack team to develop a complete process for fabricating semiconductor packaging devices. You’ll be responsible for metal plating, recipe development, lithography, deposition, etc.
We’re looking for a generalist technician with experience across new process development, recipe formulation and material characterization, etc. Besides these skills, good fundamental knowledge helps: you’ll be working across disciplines like chemistry, process control, and physics.
The ideal candidate has hands-on metal plating experience and can move through testing cycles quickly. Our philosophy is to get things built/tested in days or weeks, not months.
Responsibilities
Testing and iterating on various metal plating processes
Characterizing materials’ electromechanical properties
Conduct lab experiments end-to-end
Collaborating closely with team members to provide technical support on experiments
Creating thorough documentation (SOPs, etc.) and maintaining equipment
Maintaining a well-stocked and clean laboratory environment
Required Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in engineering, or equivalent in skill and 1 or more years of experience in a chemistry lab
Hands-on wet lab experience
Experience with metal plating process
Experience operating lab metrology instruments (microscopes, SEM, profilometers, etc.)
Ability to troubleshoot equipment when issues arise
Nice-to-have
Laser safety knowledge
Experience with electronic connections, including soldering, and addressing issues like thermal expansion and soldering reliability
