Requirements
  • A degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in property and casualty actuarial or insurance analytics work is required, with exposure to pricing, reserving, capital, regulatory, or related technical areas.
  • Completion of at least 10 actuarial exams under the new curriculum is required.
  • Strong technical knowledge of actuarial and analytical techniques is required.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or R, including experience with data visualization and report generation, is required.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel including Visual Basic for Applications and PowerPoint, are required.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, attention to detail, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Good people management skills are required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform actuarial, financial, and statistical analysis to assess and quantify client risks.
  • Examine client issues in detail, identify key drivers, and develop recommendations to support risk analysis and mitigation.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, lead multiple projects simultaneously, and ensure alignment with stakeholder expectations and strategic goals.
  • Contribute to and lead the preparation of client reports, presentations, and other deliverables, ensuring findings are clearly structured and communicated.
  • Participate in and, where appropriate, lead projects, taking increasing responsibility for more complex assignments.
  • Contribute to client relationship management and identify opportunities for new business where relevant.
  • Support the development, enhancement, and application of analytics-based tools, models, and solutions.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to automate and improve processes, delivering measurable gains in efficiency and output quality.
  • Foster innovation and continuous improvement in analytics techniques and delivery methods.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and guidance to junior team members as appropriate.
  • Ensure team members maintain essential operational disciplines such as timesheets, project trackers, and leave records.
  • Build connections across Analytics Solutions and the wider organization and share knowledge to strengthen collective capability.
Desired Qualifications
  • Relevant actuarial papers under the old curriculum, such as CT3, CT4, CT6, and ST8.
  • Relevant actuarial papers under the new curriculum, such as CS1, CS2, and SP8.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and reporting requirements related to capital, solvency, or insurance financial reporting standards, including IFRS 17.
  • Deep knowledge of actuarial reserving methodologies and risk transfer techniques.
  • Exposure to quantitative methods such as cashflow projections and stochastic modelling, preferably within Workers' Compensation or similar long-tail liability lines of business.
  • Experience with statistical modeling, including generalized linear models and machine learning methods such as decision trees, random forest, and XGBoost.
  • Good commercial judgment and the ability to balance technical depth and business needs.
  • Confidence in leading client interactions, presenting complex findings, and contributing to business development conversations.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, manage competing priorities, and maintain quality across a portfolio of engagements.
  • A proactive mindset and the ability to improve analytics techniques, processes, and outputs.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and provide performance feedback to junior colleagues effectively.

US employers plan 3.2% merit pay rises for 2027 amid economic uncertainty

US employers plan to maintain moderate salary increases in 2027, according to Marsh's Mercer QuickPulse survey of 1,001 organisations. Base salary merit increases are projected at 3.2%, with total salary increases at 3.5%, marking four consecutive years of similar rates. Economic uncertainty continues influencing compensation decisions, with 57% of employers expecting at least moderate impact. High Tech (3.8%), Banking (3.7%), and Energy (3.6%) lead in merit budgets, whilst Consumer Goods (2.9%) and Healthcare (3.0%) lag behind. Employers expect to promote 8.4% of their workforce in 2027, down from 8.6% in 2026. Off-cycle salary adjustments remain common, with 64% of organisations providing them. AI adoption in compensation planning is growing, with 70% of organisations reporting some automation, primarily for market pricing recommendations and benchmarking.

Marsh beats Q1 estimates with $7.6B revenue, $3.29 EPS as organic growth hits 5%

Marsh reported Q1 revenue of $7.6 billion, up 7.6% year-over-year, beating the consensus estimate of $7.38 billion by 2.88%. Earnings per share came in at $3.29, compared to $3.06 in the prior-year quarter, surpassing the consensus estimate of $3.21 by 2.46%. Key metrics showed mixed performance against analyst expectations. Consolidated organic revenue growth of 5% exceeded the 3.5% estimate, whilst consulting organic growth of 5% topped the 4.4% forecast. However, Guy Carpenter's organic growth of 2% fell short of the 4.2% estimate. Geographically, Marsh's EMEA division generated $1.21 billion in revenue, up 14.1% year-over-year and beating estimates. Mercer consulting revenue reached $1.66 billion, an 11% increase that surpassed the $1.58 billion consensus.
