Requirements
  • Candidate must hold the MFA in studio art or its equivalent by start date (July 1, 2026)
  • Required cover letter should address teaching experience, technical competencies (particularly in relation to our sculptural facilities), and a demonstrated commitment to inclusive, accessible studio art instruction that supports a diverse student body and fosters a sense of belonging for all students.

Responsibilities
  • Create a studio classroom environment that investigates 3D structures and spaces, utilizing sculpture and constructed environments to explore various facets of contemporary culture and experience, including those that have traditionally been underrepresented.
  • Contribute significantly to undergraduate curriculum, mentorship, and creative activity.
  • Teach a five-course annual teaching load (four courses in the first year) encompassing courses in beginning and advanced sculpture, beginning drawing, and rotating advanced courses that guide students toward a senior capstone with exhibition in the Smith Gallery.
  • Develop new courses reflecting technical and theoretical investigations of interest to the candidate; bridge technical skills with inquiry within historical and contemporary concerns; encourage critical engagement with material, techne, space, and social contexts.
  • Provide expert mentorship across all areas of sculpture facilities; participate in formal mentorship opportunities for new faculty; support interdepartmental collaboration.
Desired Qualifications
  • Active exhibiting artist
  • Experience as an educator and/or artist-educator in higher education
  • Experience with casting, bronze foundry, metalworking, woodshop, plaster, ceramics; familiarity with digital fabrication tools and 3D printing; knowledge of sculpture facilities operations and safety
  • Experience with senior capstone exhibitions; ability to guide students toward a senior capstone with exhibition in the Smith Gallery
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive, accessible studio art instruction and fostering belonging for diverse student body
  • Willingness to contribute to leadership roles in the future
  • Interest in cross-disciplinary collaboration with art historians and other departments
