Requirements
  • A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse is required.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state is required.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification or American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • Registered nurses hired with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing must enroll in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program within two years and obtain the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree within four years of the hire or reclassification date.
  • The role requires the ability to work rotating shifts and overtime as required.
  • The role requires the physical ability to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, work in temperature extremes and elevated or confined spaces, kneel, bend, twist, squat, pinch, grasp, manipulate objects, reach, perform repetitive motions, use both legs, maintain balance and coordination, lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, exert up to 50 pounds of force, and transfer or move patients with assistance as needed.
  • The role requires corrected 20/40 vision, near and distance object recognition, color discrimination, depth perception, peripheral vision, and corrected hearing acuity.
  • The role requires the ability to deal effectively with stressful situations, work in a latex-safe environment, and maintain tactile sensory function.
  • Selected positions require good olfactory sensory function and physical qualification for respirator use.
Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients using the principles and practices of the nursing process.
  • Provide nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Direct and lead assigned team members and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to provide age- and developmentally appropriate care in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Provide patient- and family-centered care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs.
  • Develop nursing diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan and implement interventions, coordinate care, provide health teaching and promotion, and evaluate goals and interventions in accordance with MUSC policies.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment by ensuring patient privacy and demonstrating responsive, respectful, accepting, and professional behavior.
  • Participate in the professional practice model, shared governance, peer review, and professional development activities that promote leadership and clinical excellence.
  • Practice autonomously, remain accountable for actions, and apply critical thinking.
  • Coordinate effective and efficient patient care services through care management principles.
  • Identify clinical priorities and initiate actions to improve patient outcomes.
  • Promote a healthy work environment and accept personal responsibility for professional growth.
