Requirements
  • A nursing degree from an accredited college or university, or graduation from an approved Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse program, is required.
  • A current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state is required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants.
  • Direct nursing assistants’ day-to-day functions and ensure nursing personnel comply with facility policies, procedures, job descriptions, and applicable regulations.
  • Review department policies, procedure manuals, and job descriptions and recommend revisions.
  • Plan shift services, programs, and activities with assigned nursing and support personnel.
  • Prepare required written and oral shift reports and recommendations.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to maintain each resident’s total care regimen.
  • Participate in the nursing service quality assurance program and facility surveys conducted by authorized government agencies.
  • Review and update resident discharge plans and assist with planning nursing services for discharge.
  • Interpret department policies and procedures for personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents and complete associated forms, reports, census records, charge slips, and documentation.
  • Protect resident and facility information by safeguarding user credentials, protected health information, and information-system access.
  • Complete admission, transfer, discharge, accident, incident, and routine medical-record documentation.
  • Receive and record physician telephone orders, transcribe orders to resident records and care documents, and maintain accurate nurses’ notes.
  • Record diet changes, report documentation or order discrepancies, complete transfer forms, and document unauthorized discharges.
  • Prepare and administer physician-ordered medications and treatments after verifying resident identity.
  • Maintain medication, narcotic, supply, and equipment inventories; order supplies as needed; and report discrepancies to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Review medication cards, follow stop-order policies, notify physicians about automatic stop orders, and dispose of medications and narcotics according to procedure.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations, determine shift staffing requirements, recommend personnel actions, and report staffing shortages and absences.
  • Develop work assignments, provide leadership, conduct unit rounds, monitor nursing performance, and report problem areas.
  • Ensure nursing assistants are enrolled in or have graduated from approved training programs and that trainees are directly supervised by a licensed nurse.
  • Meet regularly with nursing personnel to identify and correct problems and improve services.
  • Review personnel complaints and grievances and report or administer disciplinary actions according to facility procedures.
  • Receive and give nursing reports at the beginning and end of shifts and report occupational exposures, suspected fraud, and security incidents.
  • Inform nursing personnel about admissions, prepare rooms, greet and orient residents and families, and coordinate admission activities.
  • Make physician rounds, arrange diagnostic and therapeutic services, consult physicians, review charts, and implement nursing objectives and standards.
  • Check that prescribed treatments are properly administered and evaluate residents’ physical and emotional status.
  • Provide or oversee catheterization, tube feedings, suctioning, dressing changes, colostomy and drainage-bag care, specimen collection, vital-sign measurement, range-of-motion exercises, and other professional nursing services.
  • Use restraints when necessary and according to policy, monitor seriously ill residents, and notify physicians and next of kin about accidents or changes in condition.
  • Carry out restorative and rehabilitative programs and ensure direct care follows resident care plans and wishes.
  • Maintain clean and safe nursing areas, monitor infection-control and safety procedures, and ensure appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain adequate nursing equipment, medications, and supplies; ensure safe equipment operation; and prevent waste.
  • Review resident care plans, identify needed revisions, ensure nurses’ notes reflect care-plan implementation, and ensure certified nursing assistants follow care plans.
  • Assist with minimum data set assessments, resident assessment protocols, and care-plan scheduling and revisions.
  • Participate in developing, planning, conducting, and scheduling in-service training and orientation programs.
  • Train personnel on blood and body-fluid exposure tasks, assist with clinical supervision of nurse aide trainees, and attend required continuing-education and facility training programs.
  • Provide data to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee as requested.

PACS Group acquires Alaska care facility, plans 150-bed skilled nursing centre by 2028

PACS Group has appointed Carey P. Hendrickson as chief financial officer, effective 27 April 2026. Hendrickson brings nearly four decades of financial leadership across healthcare, senior living and media sectors. PACS Group has announced that co-founder and chief financial officer Mark Hancock will retire on 30 June 2026. He will continue serving on the company's board of directors as vice chairman. Hancock co-founded PACS in 2013 with Jason Murray, starting with two post-acute care facilities in San Diego. Dr Conway currently serves as CEO of Optum, UnitedHealth Group's health services division with revenues exceeding $200 billion.
