The Department of Resident Life serves a highly diverse population of approximately 12,500 students living in traditional residence halls, apartments, and suites including some public/private partnership apartment communities. Approximately 46% of all resident students are enrolled in twelve living-learning programs covering a wide array of academic areas. Resident Life employs a diverse workforce of 88 full-time and graduate staff members and about 600 undergraduate student staff members. The Coordinator for Research and Assessment works collaboratively with the Senior Analyst for Research and Assessment and the Senior Associate Director in planning and implementing assessment projects for the Department of Resident Life and the Division of Student Affairs. The Coordinator is part of the Resident Life Engagement, Services & Programs unit.
Primary responsibilities include:
1 - the support for and implementation of a wide range of assessment projects and
2 - the planning and facilitation of training and educational sessions designed to a) share key highlights of departmental and divisional assessment projects, b) understand how to use data to inform the work they do within our department, and c) how to identify data-informed implications for practice.
The Coordinator will collaborate with the Senior Analyst for Research and Assessment to develop quantitative and qualitative data collection methods, e.g., web-based surveys and focus groups. The Coordinator will work to ensure ethical practices and rigorous assessment standards are maintained for projects, and when appropriate submit applications to the Internal Review Board (IRB). The Coordinator will manage projects, train staff, track and respond to project issues and oversee data collection procedures.
Specific Responsibilities

Perform data management responsibilities including manipulation of datasets using Excel, preparation of datasets for data analysis, and analyzing data using SPSS. Produce reports and presentations tailored for a variety of audiences. (50%)
Develop quantitative and qualitative data collection methods, e.g., web-based and pencil/paper questionnaires and focus groups. Designs and develops interactive dashboards in Tableau to visualize data and support decision-making. Ensure ethical practices and rigorous assessment standards are maintained for projects, and, when appropriate, submit applications to the Internal Review Board (IRB). (25%)
Engage professional staff in supporting the DSA learning domains, with the goal to enhance the student experience and improve practice. Supervise and train undergraduate staff in assessment procedures, analysis, and reporting. (10%)
Serve as a member of the Resident Life Engagement, Services and Programs unit. Support departmental programs and initiatives through active participation in departmental large-scale activities. Serve as an assessment consultant or represent the department on campus committees. (10%)

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree required
Skill set must include experience with assessment, including survey design, analysis, and reporting; general knowledge of statistical methods; and competence with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Tableau. Preferred candidate has competence with statistical methods, data management, and data analysis packages (e.g., Tableau, SAS, R and/or other statistical package). Experience using syntax-based analyses and Access database management would be beneficial.
Knowledge and experience with survey research methods, including using Qualtrics.
Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Experience producing assessment reports and presentations for non-technical audiences preferred.
Experience with writing and assessing student learning outcomes, especially using direct methods of assessment would be useful. Also beneficial is an understanding of techniques and strategies for program level assessment, and a willingness to learn new techniques and strategies.
Must have demonstrated experience working with teams and in group settings. Solid organizational and project management skills, as well as attention to detail are major assets in this position. Must be able to work independently and manage several projects at once, keep projects moving forward, and take the initiative to fulfill job duties beyond a basic understanding of individual tasks. Administration experience successfully coordinating team projects with others whom one does not supervise would be useful.
Preferences:
Master’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in student affairs, higher education, social sciences, statistics, or related field. Completion of a master’s research thesis or comparable research project.
One year full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience is preferred, preferably in educational assessment/research, institutional research, applied statistics, program evaluation, social sciences or related field required in an educational setting.
Experience and knowledge of student affairs or higher education is strongly desired. Related experience in government or industry is acceptable.
Knowledge and experience working with the following data visualization tools preferred: Tableau and/or Power BI Visual Analytics.
Knowledge and experience working with the following data extraction and reporting tools preferred: Tableau/PowerBI, SAS Enterprise Guide, R, and/or other tools.
Physical Demands:
Normal office environment – Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negotiable amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Ability to travel around campus for meetings and to attend to duties. Evening and weekend work on a variable basis is required.
