Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • One year of clinical experience or graduation from a Medical Assistant program is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support or cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification, or certification obtained within 60 days of hire, is required through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • The role requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time, up to eight hours at a time.
  • The role requires continual finger use for patient care, writing, and computer entry; routine use of the upper extremities; occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds; occasional pushing of a supply cart up to 30 pounds; and occasional pushing of a wheelchair with a patient weighing up to 325 pounds.
  • The role requires the ability to stoop, bend, and reach above shoulder level, as well as normal hearing and good general, near, and peripheral vision.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct pre-visit planning by reviewing and, when necessary, updating patient medical records with recent test results and correspondence and determining needed services according to practice protocol.
  • Confer with providers about incomplete patient tests, consultations, or orders before patient visits.
  • Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining height, weight, and vital signs; updating medication lists, allergies, and personal, family, and social histories; asking about smoking status; and documenting the reason for the visit.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms.
  • Document patient information in the Electronic Medical Record according to entity guidelines and enter provider orders according to provider instructions in a complete, thorough, and timely manner.
  • Clarify and correct documentation under provider direction and notify providers when charts are complete and ready for review and sign-off.
  • Provide patient care services as needed or directed, including cleaning examination rooms, maintaining clinical supplies and equipment, maintaining appropriate instrumentation, and cleaning and autoclaving contaminated instruments.
  • Dispose of biohazardous and regular waste according to practice protocol.
  • Assist with scheduling outpatient testing, pre-certifying patients for procedures, and processing referrals.
  • Respond to patient communications within practice guidelines and refill medications according to practice protocol.
  • Provide patients with visit-related information, including information packets and vaccine advisory sheets.
  • Communicate and coordinate with providers and Care Coordinators regarding hospital discharges, emergency department visits, consulting physicians, community resources, disease management, patient self-management, chronic-condition education, individualized care plans, and follow-up contact.
  • Follow up with patients as indicated to support compliance with recommendations, medications, laboratory work, testing, and specialist visits.
  • Complete other related duties assigned to support department and organizational priorities.
  • Complete the applicable 30-, 60-, and 90-day onboarding checklist during onboarding to confirm mastery of service-line skills.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two years of experience in a similar healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Customer service experience is strongly preferred.
