Responsibilities
  • Performs comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations
  • Diagnoses and treats illnesses and injuries
  • Orders and interprets laboratory and radiographic studies
  • Educates and counsels patients
  • Performs minor surgical procedures
  • Performs First and Second Assist duties in surgery for all subspecialties
  • Renders emergency care
  • Facilitates patient referral to the appropriate physician or agency
  • Prescribes medication in compliance with state and hospital guideline
  • Performs first assist duties
  • Assists with surgical procedures
  • Conducts daily hospital rounds when required
  • Write orders and progress notes when required
  • Performs all admission history and physicals
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and radiographic tests

  • Formulates and implements treatment and therapeutic plans for hospitalized patients
  • Handles discharge planning and dictates discharge summaries when required
  • Hospital Care: 1st/2nd assistant in surgery: Performs first and second assistant duties including suturing and wound closure, placement of dressing, drains, Vac sponges, etc. Pre-operative responsibilities include obtaining consent and educating family and patient on proposed surgery, performing and documenting surgical consultation and history and physical, reviewing pertinent laboratory and imaging study reviews prior to surgery, ordering preoperative labs, studies, medications and preps, post-operative responsibilities include written orders in the recovery room, communicating with family, visiting patients, performing post-operative procedures and notes, providing surgical coverage of postoperative patients on general wards or ICU, discharge planning including dictating discharge summaries and prescriptions, available for in-hospital consultations and adherence to Surgical Consultation Hierarchy protocol, and coverage of all surgical subspecialty inpatients at BIDP
