Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • One year of employment experience in the child welfare field working with children and/or adolescents.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish based on the service area and service population.
  • Ability to work extended shifts during periods of influx, including 12-hour shifts at least once a week or more.
  • Ability to use visual and auditory awareness within the work environment to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
  • Ability to establish trust and build positive rapport with children while working within ethical boundaries.
  • Conflict resolution and de-escalation skills to handle challenging situations and ensure resident safety.
  • Verbal communication skills to give and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Proficiency with basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Word and Excel and documentation programs or databases.
  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, twisting, and reaching; ability to lift, push, pull, and move up to 125 pounds.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct intake services for incoming Unaccompanied Children, including paperwork, assessments, an overview of program services, and assistance with initial placement and orientation.
  • Provide basic needs upon arrival, including meals, clothing, hygiene products, showers, and bedroom assignments; assist with wake-up, bedtime, personal care, chores, homework, meals, and recreational activities.
  • Supervise Unaccompanied Children and enforce appropriate behavior limits in accordance with individual treatment and behavior plans and Office of Refugee Resettlement standards.
  • Perform behavior management and crisis intervention, provide one-to-one monitoring as directed by management or the clinical team, and ensure the safety and well-being of Unaccompanied Children.
  • Maintain a safe and organized environment by cleaning and organizing the living space.
  • Document interactions and interventions in accordance with individual behavior plans, progress notes, and Office of Refugee Resettlement standards, including behavior incidents and general observations.
  • Assist Unaccompanied Children with social skills, anger management, and daily living skills.
  • Accompany Unaccompanied Children on outings and activities, promoting community inclusion and ensuring safety during transportation to appointments, outings, and scheduled events.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with management, staff, Unaccompanied Children, and volunteers to support program goals and objectives.
  • Assist in evacuating Unaccompanied Children during emergencies such as inclement weather or natural disasters.
  • Attend meetings and training and maintain required training hours under licensing and Office of Refugee Resettlement standards.
  • Perform other assigned duties and special projects.
Desired Qualifications
  • An Associate's degree in social services, Human Services, or a closely related field.
  • Two years of previous experience performing direct care services for children and adolescents.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
