Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Biology, Botany, Ecology, or a related discipline.
  • At least 2 years of environmental consulting and biological field experience.
  • Prior experience conducting construction field compliance monitoring on at least 2 projects, including at least 6 months of total field compliance monitoring experience.
  • A valid driver's license and successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Records check.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, plan, and execute field assignments for southern and east-central California-based work.
  • Conduct general and species-specific biological surveys and construction compliance monitoring pursuant to relevant environmental commitments, laws, regulations, codes, and industry standards.
  • Document field findings in monitoring logs, reports, memos, and email communications, as appropriate.
  • Communicate routinely with client field contacts and ICF project managers and senior biologists.
  • Travel to remote field sites in other counties, including Los Angeles, Orange, Kern, San Bernardino, Riverside, Inyo, and San Diego Counties.
  • Assist with writing and reviewing biological reports and supporting documents, including Biological Technical Reports, Biological Assessments, technical memoranda, and FRED database forms.
  • Provide as-needed field and office support to local and regional Natural Resource team members.
Desired Qualifications
  • Avian nest monitoring and species identification skills, including nesting bird field surveys and avian habitat assessments on at least 3 projects, with at least 2 projects located in the southwestern United States.
  • Experience leading all three phases of western burrowing owl protocol surveys on at least 3 projects, including positive identification of individual owls in the wild.
  • Experience conducting native special-status reptile or amphibian species surveys or monitoring on at least 3 projects, with positive results and identification of target species.
  • Experience leading field surveys or trapping for small mammals on at least 3 California projects, including possession of a California Department of Fish and Wildlife scientific collecting permit.
  • Basic field observation documentation and data management experience.
  • Experience working in environmental compliance and/or construction fields, such as biological or aquatic construction monitoring.
  • Basic botanical knowledge of east-central and southern California, with participation in at least 5 botanical rare plant surveys and habitat mapping assessments in California, including at least 3 projects in southern or east-central California.
  • Geographic Information System software skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to respond promptly to deployment requests, sometimes by the next day.
  • Ability to travel to field sites in east-central and southern California and assist with field surveys and compliance monitoring in rugged, undeveloped terrain.
  • Ability and experience conducting work at active construction sites and communicating with construction foremen and equipment operators.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Teams.
