Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The ability to learn new concepts and technologies is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are preferred.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy are preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Shadow and learn under the guidance and supervision of a certified technician.
  • Learn to perform preliminary diagnostic tests, including visual acuity testing, tonometry, and refraction.
  • Assist in preparing patients for eye exams by conducting preliminary tests, including visual acuity, tonometry, pupil dilation, neutralizing glasses, automated refractions, pupillary exams, confrontational fields, ocular motility, intraocular pressure, and related examinations.
  • Record patient medical histories, symptoms, and test results accurately in the electronic medical record system.
  • Observe and assist in conducting imaging tests such as Optical Coherence Tomography and visual field testing.
  • Handle and maintain ophthalmic equipment and instruments properly.
  • Educate patients about procedures, eye-care instructions, and follow-up appointments.
  • Sterilize and clean equipment and exam rooms according to established procedures.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure proper documentation of services.
  • Adhere to infection-control and safety protocols.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops to improve skills and knowledge in ophthalmology.
  • Perform clinical-clerical office duties, including scheduling, completing request forms, printing results, ordering contact lenses, and related administrative activities.
  • Stock rooms according to practice needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous healthcare or clinical experience is preferred.
  • A strong interest in ophthalmology and eye care is preferred.
