Requirements
  • More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including life skills and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.
  • Public School and/or High School Graduate, or an acceptable alternative level of education and experience.
  • A satisfactory police reference check for the vulnerable sector, not older than six months.
  • Ability to operate industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mop and sweep, bend, twist, lift, occasionally work on ladders, and perform fine motor tasks.
  • Ability to lift more than 30 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain attention while using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, and using general cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to work in conditions involving garbage, odors, angry people, verbal abuse, toxic chemicals, varying weather, washrooms, infectious diseases, sharp objects, electrical hazards, and repetitive strain risks.
  • Ability to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, agency safety programs, and applicable health and safety policies.
Responsibilities
  • Disinfect high-touch surfaces throughout the building, including washrooms and common areas.
  • Dispose of garbage in each assigned area.
  • Clean and maintain bathroom stalls, floors, sinks, toilets, and walls.
  • Restock washroom supplies.
  • Support Residential Workers with emergency cleanups involving body fluids or virus transmission.
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum according to the provided work schedule.
  • Clean lower sections of windows.
  • Spot-clean marks on floors and walls.
  • Clean the chapel, staff and client lounges, dining rooms, and offices according to the provided work schedule.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Participate fully and constructively in staff and departmental meetings.
  • Read and follow the Policy and Procedures Manual, Hostel Standards & Guidelines, Position Description, and Operations Manual.
  • Make suggestions to management that improve efficiency, working conditions, or procedures when required.
  • Participate in authorized seminars and training sessions as requested.
  • Represent the organization professionally.
  • Work with Intake Workers to support building functioning and as part of the Environmental Services Team.
  • Conduct facility security and safety rounds regularly according to policy.
  • Report accidents, injuries, and workplace hazards in a timely manner.
