Requirements
  • A Medical Radiologic Technologist license from the Mississippi State Department of Health is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required post-hire within 90 days.
  • Mammography certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, radiation physics and protection, and imaging principles is required.
  • Skill in using imaging equipment is required.
  • Verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Interpersonal skills are required.
  • Ability to comply with radiation protection practices is required.
  • Ability to alleviate patient anxiety is required.
  • The role requires occasional lifting and carrying of more than 100 pounds and the ability to perform bending, climbing, crawling, crouching or stooping, kneeling, pushing or pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, twisting, and walking.
Responsibilities
  • Perform mammography procedures to produce images of the breast.
  • Explain procedures to patients, obtain and record relevant medical history, select appropriate equipment settings, and position patients to facilitate optimal imaging results.
  • Review images to determine quality and forward them for interpretation while maintaining applicable patient documentation.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and a clean work area and report equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Assume responsibility for patient safety and provide physical and psychological comfort to patients.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety, environmental, exposure control, and infection control practices.
