Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A state criminal background check and federal background check, if applicable, are required for regulated areas.
  • One year of patient registration experience is required.
  • The employee must be able to use applicable computer software and equipment for access processing and follow downtime procedures.
  • The employee must know how to report and document unsafe or hazardous conditions, incidents, and defective equipment according to hospital policy.
  • The employee must have considerable attention to detail, organizational ability, and the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • The employee must be able to memorize and retrieve information from written sources or appropriate personnel.
  • The employee must understand medical insurance payment requirements and have basic knowledge of covered services.
  • The employee must have written and verbal communication skills and be able to understand written and verbal communication.
  • The employee must have basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • The employee must meet the stated physical requirements, including frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.
  • The employee must have visual acuity within the normal range and manual dexterity to operate keyboards, fax machines, telephones, and other business equipment.
  • The employee must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods.
  • The employee must have reading and comprehension ability.
  • The employee must work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment with exposure to communicable disease and frequent interaction with patients, medical staff, and support staff.
Responsibilities
  • Lead registration associates in performing administrative and clerical duties related to patient registration and obtaining patient financial obligations.
  • Monitor registration activities in assigned areas to ensure completion of registration and collection duties and report potential issues as necessary.
  • Perform registration duties, including obtaining demographic, billing, and insurance information.
  • Prepare standard consent forms.
  • Collect deposits, copayments, deductibles, and patient-liability payments.
  • Prepare armbands for patient identification.
  • Assist in training employees and educating staff about pertinent changes to their roles.
  • Assist in coordinating downtime procedures.
  • Organize daily tasks by priority to achieve productivity, accountability, and efficiency.
  • Complete daily template adjustments when required due to unexpected call-offs or clinic situations.
