Requirements
  • Ability to lift patients up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient and team-member information.
  • Ability to withstand crisis situations.
  • Ability to provide customer service to patients, team members, and visitors.
  • Knowledge and experience with electronic health records.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer credential from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS-RDMS).
  • Basic Life Support certification.
Responsibilities
  • Review consultation requests, check physician instructions, and consult the Radiologist when necessary.
  • Complete departmental processes for exam results and documentation.
  • Greet and identify patients and explain examination procedures to patients and accompanying family members.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of all equipment in the Ultrasound department.
  • Perform routine diagnostic ultrasound procedures according to established protocols.
  • Assist the Radiologist with ultrasound-guided biopsies and drainages.
  • Verify consent and patient understanding of risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up.
  • Ensure exam prerequisites are completed before appointments.
  • Evaluate lab values before interventional procedures when required.
  • Order and maintain supplies for the Ultrasound area and report shortages or special-order items.
  • Perform visual preventive safety inspections and daily quality-assurance tests on Ultrasound Scan equipment.
  • Identify equipment or process problems and communicate them to the immediate supervisor.
  • Evaluate scans for technical quality and demonstrate anatomy through proper patient positioning.
  • Add on exams when possible or find alternatives to assure access to care.
  • Verify correct order entry and supply charging.
  • Maintain Joint Commission standards and American College of Radiology accreditation.
  • Scan patient-related forms and information into the PACS.
  • Follow the department Code of Conduct.
  • Recognize emergency situations, initiate code procedures, and administer first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation as needed.
