Sony creates and sells consumer electronics and entertainment products for a global audience. Its roots go from a Tokyo repair shop to a multinational company after adopting transistor technology and launching Japan’s first transistor radio, the TR-55, in 1955, and rebranding to Sony in 1958 to reach a broader market. Sony’s product lineup blends hardware and media experiences for everyday use, with a focus on reliable quality and recognizable brands. The company expanded internationally, becoming the first Japanese company listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1961, signaling its global ambitions. Compared with many peers, Sony combines a long history of electronics innovation with a broad entertainment footprint and a track record of global growth, giving it a wider scope than firms that focus on a single product category. Its goal is to be a leading worldwide provider of electronics and entertainment experiences that people trust and enjoy.

LiveU and Sony expand collaboration with direct file workflow integration for IP-based broadcasting

LiveU has announced an expanded collaboration with Sony, introducing the Sony RXS Connection License that enables direct file transfer from compatible Sony cameras through the LiveU EcoSystem. The integration allows supported LiveU field units, starting with the LU300S, to transmit files from Sony cameras whilst preserving existing broadcast workflows. The solution complements the dedicated LiveU TX1 transmission unit announced in September 2025 for Sony's professional camera range. Both solutions, demonstrated at NAB Show in Las Vegas, leverage LiveU's Reliable Transport protocol to deliver resilient file transfers from field locations. The integration enables news teams to conduct live broadcasts and transfer high-resolution files from the same device, reducing manual file handling and streamlining workflows. LiveU serves over 5,000 customers across 150 countries.

Sony and TCL establish BRAVIA Inc joint venture for TVs and audio to launch April 2027

Sony and TCL have issued an update on their joint venture, confirming legally binding agreements and revealing details seemingly designed to reassure Sony fans. The new entity, named BRAVIA Inc, will launch in April 2027 and be headquartered in Sony's Tokyo office, not China. Kazuo Kii from Sony Corporation will serve as CEO, whilst the board will split four additional members evenly between Sony and TCL employees. Despite TCL holding 51% ownership, the venture appears heavily Sony-oriented in structure and operations. BRAVIA Inc will completely succeed Sony's current AV home entertainment business, handling everything from product development to customer service for TVs, audio systems, projectors and displays. All products will continue carrying Sony and Bravia branding, with intellectual property protections in place for both companies.

Warner Bros. and Sony post profit growth as Paramount reports widened loss in 2025

Warner Bros. and Sony reported profit growth in their film divisions for 2025, while other major Hollywood studios saw declines, according to The Hollywood Reporter's annual studio profit report. Paramount posted a widened loss as it rebuilds its business. The results came as the global box office rose 12% to $33.6 billion in 2025, though domestic revenue only increased 1% to $8.7 billion, remaining well below pre-pandemic levels. Netflix continued its growth trajectory and expressed confidence that its dropped Warner Bros. bid wouldn't affect momentum. Financial comparisons across studios remain challenging due to limited disclosures and varying reporting structures. Sony's pictures segment includes TV networks, whilst Disney doesn't report separate filmed entertainment figures. Netflix's financials also aren't directly comparable, as most revenue comes from subscriptions rather than traditional studio operations.
