Requirements
  • Two years of progressive professional experience in facilities management, housekeeping, and custodial operations, or two years as a lead worker or acting supervisor.
  • Ability to manage, lead, supervise, and motivate housekeepers and floor technicians, including assisting with training, delegation, monitoring employee work performance, and ensuring cleaning tasks are consistently completed.
  • Demonstrated technical skill and knowledge of housekeeping equipment, cleaning techniques, floor care, preventive maintenance, and quality assurance programs.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and basic floor care.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and Windows Explorer.
  • Ability to communicate work tasks effectively and work within a team environment.
  • Ability to consistently meet departmental deadlines and ensure cleaning processes are completed.
  • Basic knowledge of building auditing tools.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure assigned buildings maintain acceptable cleanliness and meet or exceed the department's APPA standards by performing the required number of monthly quality audits.
  • Assist the Operations Manager or Senior Supervisor with assigning housekeeping personnel responsibilities, including cleaning different space types, assigning project work, and assigning additional tasks due to vacancies or absenteeism.
  • Provide staff with adequate supplies and equipment to perform daily tasks.
  • Assist with payroll deadlines, correcting critical system issues, and entering time adjustments for missed swipes or absenteeism when the Senior Supervisor is absent.
  • Assist with managing housekeeping personnel attendance calendars and obtaining monthly signatures.
  • Manage housekeeping personnel work performance and work with the Operations Manager or Senior Supervisor to impose appropriate disciplinary action when cleaning standards are not met.
  • Participate in the grievance process related to disciplinary actions when required.
  • Manage vendor-managed inventory to reduce or eliminate overconsumption of supplies.
  • Manage the microfiber process, including distribution, correct use, and return of microfiber to the appropriate bin at the end of each shift.
  • Work with the support team to manage equipment, provide adequate training, perform weekly or monthly maintenance, report malfunctioning equipment for repair, and remove unsafe equipment from the work environment.
  • Enter work requests in the enterprise asset management system to address maintenance concerns.
  • Attend designated leadership meetings and training established by the department's communication matrix.
  • Conduct start-of-shift and end-of-shift meetings with housekeeping personnel.
  • Address customer complaints.
  • Manage keys in the electronic key box for the assigned area, including returns, alerts, key-set changes, and investigations of lost keys.
  • Operate Duke transportation when required to transport housekeeping personnel to designated work buildings.
  • Ensure housekeeping personnel complete monthly safety training and maintain acceptable safety-training compliance.
  • Work with the Safety Director and Environmental, Occupational Health and Wellness personnel to report work-related injuries involving housekeeping personnel.
  • Complete administrative tasks related to the Assistant Supervisor position within established timeframes.
  • Maintain professional communication and interactions with department leadership, Duke administrative staff, students, and housekeeping personnel.
  • Assist in another area during a leadership vacancy or absenteeism when required.
  • Remain on campus and service facilities during severe weather when required as essential leadership staff.
  • Work overtime to support on-campus events when required.
  • Assist the Senior Supervisor with managing housekeeping overtime, including posting overtime, drafting personnel, and tracking overtime for billing purposes.
Desired Qualifications
  • Registered Executive Housekeeper certification or Certified Executive Housekeeper certification.
