Requirements
  • More than 3 years of experience in deep learning applied to computer vision, ideally on video data, with knowledge of relevant frameworks and the state of the art.
  • Experience with production AI requiring strong Python knowledge and good software development practices, including automation, architecture and design, quality, testing, and continuous integration and continuous delivery.
  • Good understanding of databases and orchestration and containerization technologies.
  • Fluent spoken English is desirable for the role.
  • Ability to obtain French Defense security clearance is mandatory.
  • Experience working in an air-gapped environment is desirable.
  • Experience working in an agile environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects or topics in parallel, organize personal activities, and organize a squad's activities to meet project milestones.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and train deep learning models across the full algorithm-creation process, from writing annotation guides through packaging and deploying detectors, including training, optimization, and development of evaluation protocols.
  • Participate in developing the software that uses the artificial intelligence algorithms, following team software engineering practices such as agile methods, code review, and production code quality.
  • Participate in defining a technical vision and experimental plans to improve detectors.
  • Participate in designing and developing MLOps tools that improve team productivity throughout algorithm production, including challenges associated with classified environments.
  • Monitor the state of the art on topics related to the project.
  • Potentially lead a squad of three or four deep learning scientists by facilitating weekly meetings and sprint planning, distributing tasks within the squad, and helping prepare upcoming development cycles with technical project managers.

Electra secures Safran deal for 250 TG600 turbogenerators to power EL9 hybrid-electric aircraft

Electra and Safran Helicopter Engines have signed a life-of-program production agreement for the TG600 turbogenerator to power Electra's EL9 Ultra Short hybrid-electric aircraft. The deal includes an initial order for 250 units. The TG600, which will supply 600 kW of electricity, will be based on Safran's Arrano engine and equipped with two GENeUS electric generators. Safran completed the first bench test of a flight-ready turbogenerator in July at its Bordes facility. The EL9 Ultra Short is designed to take off and land in just 150 feet using hybrid-electric propulsion and blown-lift technology. Electra has submitted the aircraft to the Federal Aviation Administration for Part 23 type certification, with first flight scheduled for late 2027 or early 2028 and entry to service expected in 2030.

Safran secures $16.6M EU funding to automate electric aviation engine production

Safran Electrical & Power has secured €14.7 million in funding from the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and Environment to automate production of its ENGINeUS electric motor. The seven-year ENGINeUS PULL project, running from 2026 to 2032, aims to support sustainable aviation and the EU's carbon neutrality goals for the sector by 2050. Certified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency in 2025, the ENGINeUS motor is now ready for series production. Safran will establish two semi-automated assembly lines at its Niort facility, along with logistics, maintenance and repair resources. The modular engine is designed to provide electric propulsion for two- to four-passenger aircraft and distributed hybrid-electric propulsion for 19-passenger regional aircraft.

Safran to supply certified electric motor for H55's Bristell B23 Energic propulsion system

H55 and Safran Electrical & Power have signed an agreement to integrate Safran's ENGINeUS electric motor into H55's electric propulsion system for the Bristell B23 Energic aircraft. The collaboration targets certified electric propulsion solutions for CS-23/Part 23 Level 1 and 2 general aviation aircraft. The partnership combines Safran's EASA-certified electric motor technology with H55's energy storage and propulsion integration capabilities. The Bristell B23 Energic will serve as the initial certification platform, targeting the electric pilot training market. Safran will support prototype and serial production phases beginning in 2027. ENGINeUS is the only certified electric motor in the aviation market, whilst H55 has completed the only battery architecture to undergo EASA-witnessed module testing. The Bristell B23 is already certified under both EASA and FAA regulations.

Safran acquires Toulouse-based Syntony for resilient GNSS navigation tech

Safran Electronics & Defense has acquired Syntony, a Toulouse-based startup founded in 2015 specialising in Global Navigation Satellite System solutions for challenging environments. The acquisition amount was not disclosed. Syntony has developed expertise in providing reliable positioning when conventional systems like GPS fail, particularly in underground settings where satellite signals are unavailable or vulnerable to physical obstacles, jamming and interference. The company's technologies include Controlled Reception Pattern Antennas, which reduce GNSS receivers' sensitivity to jamming and spoofing, and software-defined radios that can adapt through software updates without hardware changes. Syntony also develops GNSS receivers for next-generation satellites, particularly low Earth orbit constellations. The company employs approximately 70 people across Toulouse and Paris.
