Requirements
  • A diploma from an accredited Architectural Technologist Program or equivalent is required.
  • The candidate must be able to independently produce full drawing sets from concept through issued-for-construction documentation.
  • Knowledge of building envelope systems, including waterproofing, air and vapour barriers, and thermal performance, is required.
  • Knowledge of wall assemblies, detailing, and constructability is required.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and local planning and permit processes is required.
  • Advanced skills with Revit are required.
  • Specialized knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office applications is required.
Responsibilities
  • Produce complete construction drawing packages from concept through planning approvals for various building types, from conception to completion.
  • Translate design into clear, coordinated, and buildable documentation.
  • Develop and detail wall assemblies, building envelope systems, and critical junctions, with a focus on constructability and performance.
  • Coordinate with structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil consultants to produce fully integrated drawing sets.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues early, ensuring drawings are accurate, complete, and aligned across disciplines.
  • Prepare planning approval and permit submission packages in compliance with municipal requirements and the Ontario Building Code.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews of drawing sets before submission or issue.
  • Support construction through shop drawing review, requests for information, site instructions, and site coordination.
  • Maintain and improve drawing standards, templates, and technical workflows.
  • Collaborate on multiple projects with internal team members and external consultants, taking projects from design development through construction completion.
  • Advise on materials, technology, and processes involved in building design while applying building science methodologies.
  • Assist with construction administration activities, including shop drawing review, specifications, and site instructions.
  • Stay current with legislation, standards, and technological innovations in the field.
Desired Qualifications
  • Fifteen or more years of relevant and related experience is preferred.
  • High-level problem-solving and analytical abilities are preferred.
  • Communication skills that facilitate effective mentoring and team leadership are preferred.
  • Experience receiving executive coaching and setting the stage for legacy building and visionary leadership in architectural design is preferred.
