Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Deliver medical care to a wide variety of patients independently and in autonomous collaboration with other health care professionals.
  • Perform and document complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories.
  • Perform age-appropriate histories and physical examinations independently.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patients' age-specific needs.
  • Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
  • Implement interventions to help patients regain or maintain physiologic stability.
  • Provide care in accordance with facility, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Facilitate patients' transitions within and between health care settings, including admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
  • Facilitate staff, patient, and family decision-making by providing educational tools.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
  • Participate in patient rounds with the Head and Neck, Surgical Oncology, Neurological Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, and Urology surgical teams.
  • Complete histories, perform physical examinations, review medical records and laboratory reports, interpret diagnostic tests, formulate risk assessments, complete progress notes, and plan for surgery and postoperative care with the supervising physician or anesthesiologist in Epic/UChart.
  • Work as part of the interdisciplinary team to execute daily care plans and act as a liaison between Nursing and Surgical services to ensure follow-through for all patients.
  • Provide education to nursing staff, patients, and families on wound care, drain care or removal, tracheostomy tube care or changes, feeding tube care, and line care or changes as part of daily postoperative care and transition to home care.
  • Participate in the quality control program through continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and service.
  • See consultations in the inpatient unit or emergency room as needed to facilitate efficient care and disposition and reduce emergency department length of stay.
  • Provide patient documentation, including progress notes, discharge summaries, comorbidity documentation supporting the case mix index, and responses to documentation-team queries.
  • Facilitate timely and safe discharges to meet institutional goals.
  • Attend monthly data analytics and efficiency meetings with physician leaders to understand and facilitate institutional goals.
  • Maintain continuous communication with outpatient healthcare clinic leadership to enhance the quality of healthcare services.
