Requirements
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience within retail sales and merchandising, or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an inclusive communication style.
  • The ability to stay organized and energetic while adapting and solving problems as needed.
  • A valid driver's license that must be maintained for the duration of employment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, and Internet applications.
  • Successful experience with Shopify point-of-sale and Thrive inventory management systems, or similar programs, and/or the ability to quickly learn new systems.
  • Experience with retail devices including iPads, mobile point-of-sale devices, barcode scanners, receipt printers, label printers, payment terminals, and basic hardware troubleshooting.
  • Accurate and clear oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management and the ability to complete assigned tasks on schedule.
  • The ability to interact with colleagues, vendors, and the public in a courteous and professional manner, informed by curiosity and a willingness to learn.
  • The ability to serve as a collaborative and flexible part of a team.
  • The ability to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and/or outdoors as needed.
  • The ability to stand, sit, crouch, kneel, or climb stairs, stools, or ladders.
  • Regularly lift up to 40 pounds of merchandise, fixtures, equipment, and supplies without assistance throughout the workday and in varied weather conditions.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain point-of-sale uptime by troubleshooting individual workstations, monitoring reserve handheld point-of-sale devices, executing software updates, coordinating planned hardware improvements, documenting issues, and communicating with Shopify Support in collaboration with the Director of Retail Services.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints verbally or in writing in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide visitors with information about Central Park, the Central Park Conservancy, and activities offered at visitor centers.
  • Provide retail sales backup, including point-of-sale software and hardware operation, cash handling, and credit card sales as needed.
  • Execute weekly retail cash deposits and receipts from visitor centers, prepare deposits, and process change orders for the bank courier in coordination with the Director of Retail Services.
  • Assist with retail reporting, inventory reconciliation, sales analysis, and identification of merchandising trends.
  • Assist with planning, setup, merchandising, inventory preparation, and breakdown for retail events, seasonal promotions, and special initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively to keep each retail location clean, organized, compelling, and compliant with visual merchandising standards.
  • Complete timely daily replenishment of on-floor backstock areas at retail locations.
  • Monitor and maintain inventories of merchandising supplies at all retail locations, including retail furniture and fixtures, fixture accessories, sign holders, risers, display stands, mannequins, approved adhesive products, and other props.
  • Create, maintain, and deploy signage inventories at all retail locations, including product signage, promotional signage, and narrative graphics, in collaboration with the Director of Retail Services.
  • Create and maintain product information sheets for the Visitor Services team.
  • Support retail sales growth through cross-team communication and training on retail products, revenue goals, and the institutional impact of retail operations.
  • Provide the Visitor Services team with clear weekly, monthly, project, and/or promotional updates through scheduled meetings and written communications.
  • Review trends, forecast stock levels, and coordinate new product releases and seasonal presentations with Retail team leadership.
  • Support the movement of merchandise between in-Park locations by assisting with physical transfers, verifying transfer counts, identifying and reporting damaged, mislabeled, or inaccurate merchandise, processing transfer documentation, and accurately entering transfer information into the inventory system.
  • Prepare products before presentation by barcode labeling, pricing, tagging, packaging, and folding, or facilitate this work by Visitor Service representatives as needed.
  • Flag damaged items and ensure proper documentation for the Retail team.
  • Maintain merchandise organization across stockrooms and the warehouse to maximize efficiency, safety, and inventory accuracy in collaboration with the Retail team.
  • Support interdepartmental requests for retail products and coordinate delivery or pickup in collaboration with the Director of Retail Services.
  • Maintain accurate and sufficient retail operational supply levels at each in-Park location.
  • Assist with delivery of merchandise and retail supplies for off-site retail initiatives as requested.
  • Assist with regular inventory cycle counts in visitor centers as assigned.
  • Collaborate with the Retail Team and Visitor Services management and representative teams to execute product preparation, transfers, restocking, stockroom optimization, and other retail-related tasks.
  • Provide staff training when necessary to implement and reinforce procedures and guidelines for successful retail experiences.
  • Provide and reinforce product information and context while accepting and sharing product feedback with the Retail leadership team.
  • Work collegially with Visitor Services team members and other Central Park Conservancy departments as necessary.
  • Seek personal learning and development opportunities and tools to build skills and enhance individual performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Preferred visual merchandising and basic graphic design experience.
