Requirements
  • A minimum of 5 years of field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing, and repairing substation relaying and control schemes.
  • Knowledge of three-phase power systems, power system protection and control schemes, test equipment, and test equipment software.
  • Experience using test equipment and tool/wiring equipment, interpreting wiring and elementary diagrams, performing basic test skills, and using personal computers.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment and communicate effectively with diverse groups, tailoring communication to the audience and situation.
  • Ability to learn and apply client switching procedures and safety measures as required.
  • Ability to reference and complete assignments as described in applicable specifications.
  • Ability to perform regular field work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, including reading and writing, due to safety-related materials, documentation, and client interactions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • A valid driver's license and good driving record.
Responsibilities
  • Interpret project-level scopes of work, plan commissioning and resource scheduling, and provide team leadership to complete test activities efficiently, on time, without service interruptions, and in accordance with established safety protocols.
  • Interpret substation drawings, including single-line drawings, alternating-current and direct-current schematics, panel wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings.
  • Write procedures and test plans supporting maintenance and construction activities, including isolation plans and functional guidelines.
  • Test voltage and current inputs to relays, local and supervisory control and data acquisition metering, relay calibration, local and supervisory control and data acquisition trip functions, local and supervisory control and data acquisition alarms, and function switches.
  • Lead and perform routine troubleshooting and repair of substation relaying and control equipment.
  • Commission new substations, power equipment, electromechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor relaying, pilot-channel equipment, controls, and communications equipment.
  • Provide project technical support to Field Service personnel.
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior-level field service personnel.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in field protective relaying.
  • Serve as a technical lead for small project teams.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in substation design, including protection and control engineering; substation construction; substation commissioning; or supervisory control and data acquisition, fault data, sequence-of-events recorder, and integration-automation equipment installation and testing.
