Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Certified as a Medical Assistant; Certified Medical Assistant (CMA-AAMA) certification is preferred and certifications must be maintained.
  • Two years of related occupational Medical Assistant experience in laboratory and clinical settings within the past four years.
  • Willingness to comply with annual health screening requirements.
  • Current healthcare provider cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships within the healthcare community that support clinical sites.
  • Knowledge of the Medical Assistant scope of practice in Wisconsin.
Responsibilities
  • Assist Medical Assistant instructors and students with laboratory activities, medical procedure practice, skill check-offs when qualified under Medical Assistant Education Review Board standards, safety procedures, and equipment care and use.
  • Schedule and facilitate open laboratories for one-on-one and group tutoring and skills practice.
  • Meet individually with Medical Assistant students to complete and monitor academic and laboratory progress.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use equipment commonly used by Medical Assistants in a variety of healthcare settings.
  • Assist the Medical Assistant Program Director and faculty with activities related to maintaining program accreditation by the Medical Assistant Education Review Board.
  • Conduct student orientation to the Medical Assistant clinic and laboratory facilities.
  • Maintain equipment, models, and a clean, safe laboratory and preparation area, and suggest improvements.
  • Support students' use of computer hardware and software in the Medical Assistant classroom and laboratory.
  • Assemble and dismantle materials and equipment for laboratory activities.
  • Help maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment used for Medical Assistant laboratory activities.
  • Follow policies and procedures related to laboratory-area security.
  • Record students' use of open laboratories through sign-in sheets.
  • Meet with individual students who miss class or are at academic risk to support successful coursework completion.
  • Communicate essential information to administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with program policy and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
