Requirements
  • Experience in the field of medical records to include the preparation, maintenance, and management of medical records and health information systems.
  • Ability to identify, define, and resolve managerial, administrative, and computerized medical record problems.
  • Skill in developing new policies and procedures for administering electronic medical record programs in order to improve program effectiveness and/or apply newly developed programs or theories to problems that require new approaches.
  • Experience working with patients is critical as a sense of urgency is extremely important in handling day to day issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to facilitate communication with medical and technical personnel.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a management environment with core skills of detail orientation, follow through, process design, excellent communication and relationship management.
Responsibilities
  • Directs and administers all activities of the Health Information Management operations.
  • Oversees budgeting, quality improvement and staff hiring, evaluation and supervision.
  • Responsible for affecting the ongoing quality and efficiency for all areas and processes of the department.
  • Responsible for effective and efficient organizational and administrative operation of the Health Information Management Department, to ensure successful maintenance of patient records.
  • Manages the Epic applications and collaborates with Epic team and Clinical Operations for upgrade roll-outs and special projects.
  • Oversees implementation and adherence to the HIM compliance and clinical documentation improvement programs.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for department managers, staff, physicians and administration for obtaining information or clarification on documentation standards, state and federal law and regulatory requirements relating to HIM.
  • Investigates and assists in resolution of HIPAA and patient privacy issues.
  • Strives to maintain adequate staffing to ensure accurate and timely processing of records.
  • Identifies, communicates and coordinates staff activities to address opportunities to improve processes.
  • Management duties include interviewing, selecting and training employees; setting and adjusting pay rates and hours of work; planning and directing work; appraising productivity and efficiency, handling complaints/grievances and disciplining when necessary.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
