Requirements
  • Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) or CRPA-Provisional, Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC), or OASAS-approved 30-hour Recovery Coach and Peer Ethics Training.
  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • Lived, work, or volunteer experience in a recovery-oriented setting.
  • Knowledge of the substance use disorder recovery process.
  • Computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Availability to travel throughout the required catchment area and ability to navigate public transportation systems to clients’ homes and within the community.
  • Commitment to recovery-oriented systems of care.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong time-management skills.
  • Ability to think logically, prioritize, and follow procedures and instructions.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Experience with advocacy, outreach and engagement, self-help, recovery, and transitional supports.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices, including Motivational Interviewing and Contingency Management.
Responsibilities
  • Provide in-person individualized support to individuals identified with a mental health diagnosis and/or substance use.
  • Serve as a role model, mentor, and advocate to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery.
  • Provide strength-based, rehabilitative, and recovery-oriented services individually and as part of a team.
  • Establish trusting relationships with clients based on mutuality and unconditional positive regard during outreach and community meetings.
  • Support clients in developing and implementing person-centered recovery plans relevant to their expressed needs and consistent with the Plan of Care.
  • Share personal experiences to foster hope and recovery.
  • Coordinate services through collaboration and consultation with staff, providers, and identified family members or friends of clients.
  • Assist clients with entitlements and concrete services, and advocate on their behalf through telephone calls and written correspondence.
  • Attend and participate in weekly supervision, staff meetings, and periodic in-service training.
  • Attain and maintain competency in assigned evidence-based practices.
  • Document time, effort, and tasks during working hours as required for billing.
  • Produce and maintain thorough, accurate, and timely documentation of client interactions, services provided, important information or events, and contacts with other agencies and service providers as required by agency policies, contracts, and regulatory agencies.
  • Increase clients’ awareness of community recovery services and supports, identify barriers to recovery, and support self-efficacy and community inclusion.
  • Assist clients in developing personal skills for community inclusion, personal development, and independent living.
  • Support clients in shared decision-making with family members and providers.
  • Provide companionship and accompaniment during community, court, and medical appointments, recovery-oriented activities, and stressful transitions including pre- and post-admission to emergency rooms, detoxification units, and discharges from hospitals and jails.
  • Conduct direct outreach to courts, probation, parole, hospitals, and other community-based organizations, with direct referrals back to the organization and its programs.
  • Assist clients in identifying and engaging in activities that support meaningful, healthy, and satisfying lifestyles.
  • Assist clients in connecting or reconnecting with natural supports, including self-help groups, that enhance quality and security of life.
  • Represent the organization at community events and forums.
