Responsibilities
  • Supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility during the assigned tour of duty in accordance with applicable standards, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing the daily nursing service functions.
  • Develop, maintain, update, and interpret nursing service policies, procedures, manuals, and job descriptions.
  • Ensure nursing service personnel comply with procedures, job descriptions, dress codes, safety regulations, infection control procedures, and other departmental policies.
  • Prepare written and oral reports and recommendations concerning nursing service operations, residents, incidents, and problem areas.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to maintain continuity of care.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs, facility surveys, committee meetings, care plan meetings, discharge planning, and implementation of committee recommendations.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents, including completing related forms, reports, and documentation.
  • Ensure sufficient licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants are available for each tour of duty and monitor absenteeism and staffing requirements.
  • Develop work assignments and delegate administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to Charge Nurses.
  • Ensure nurse aide trainees are enrolled in or have graduated from approved training programs and are directly supervised by licensed nurses.
  • Make daily rounds, evaluate nursing personnel performance, review complaints and grievances, and participate in employee performance evaluations and recommendations concerning discipline, dismissal, and transfers.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with nursing staff, support personnel, residents, families, visitors, government agencies, and other departments.
  • Inform nursing personnel of new admissions and ensure rooms are ready; greet and escort newly admitted residents as needed.
  • Make rounds with physicians, encourage timely physician documentation, and report untimely visits to the Director.
  • Consult with residents, families, and physicians regarding care, treatment, rehabilitation, and changes in resident condition.
  • Visit residents daily to observe and evaluate physical and emotional status.
  • Provide or ensure direct nursing care by qualified licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, or nurse aide trainees.
  • Review nurses' notes, medication cards, treatment schedules, resident medical records, and care plans for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with orders and resident wishes.
  • Start intravenous lines and obtain sputum, urine, and other specimens for ordered laboratory tests.
  • Take temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and other measurements as necessary.
  • Monitor seriously ill residents, authorize restraints when permitted by facility policies, and report resident status to the Director.
  • Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules and ensure proper administration, storage, and control of medications and supplies.
  • Inspect nursing treatment areas and ensure clean, safe, and sanitary conditions.
  • Ensure residents unable to call for help are checked frequently and assist with transportation after discharge.
  • Notify physicians and next of kin of changes in resident condition and inform families of resident deaths; contact funeral homes when requested.
  • Plan, conduct, schedule, and participate in in-service and continuing education programs, including training related to occupational safety, tuberculosis, privacy, abuse prevention, infection control, and emergency preparedness.
  • Assist with safety standards, exposure identification, personal protective equipment availability and use, hand hygiene, fire safety, disaster drills, and infection control programs.
  • Recommend equipment and supply needs, maintain adequate medication and supply stock, support preventive maintenance, and ensure safe operation of nursing equipment.
  • Participate in resident assessments and develop, review, and revise preliminary and comprehensive care plans, including Minimum Data Set assessments, Resident Assessment Protocols, and triggers.
  • Monitor nursing procedures and supplies for safe, efficient use and report hazardous conditions, missing labels, material safety data sheets, fraud, unauthorized information-system access, and privacy violations.

PACS Group has appointed Carey P. Hendrickson as chief financial officer, effective 27 April 2026. Hendrickson brings nearly four decades of financial leadership across healthcare, senior living and media sectors. PACS Group has announced that co-founder and chief financial officer Mark Hancock will retire on 30 June 2026. He will continue serving on the company's board of directors as vice chairman. Hancock co-founded PACS in 2013 with Jason Murray, starting with two post-acute care facilities in San Diego. Dr Conway currently serves as CEO of Optum, UnitedHealth Group's health services division with revenues exceeding $200 billion.
