Purpose
Provide Academic Advising to students in the School of Human Ecology Advising Center. To facilitate multiple sections of small learning communities and/or support programmatic initiatives. Provide accurate and timely information on course and degree options to SoHE populations. Ensure the priorities of the College and Undergraduate Education are incorporated into all aspects of the position. To advance our core mission of fostering wellness, belonging, and success for all students.
Responsibilities
- To provide academic advising for students individually and in groups. Work with SoHE students to help with their academic success by referring them to appropriate resources, assist with degree planning, and help them navigate their time at the University of Texas at Austin.
- Facilitate two CNS Freshman Learning Communities (CNS Foundations) This includes mentoring small community cohort mentors and assisting to develop weekly lesson plans for meetings.
- Support course enrollment for SoHE classes as needed.
- Other duties as assigned, including supporting special projects and staffing events within CNS.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced student-centered environment
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
- One or more years of experience providing academic advising or student support services in a college/university setting
- Familiarity with the College of Natural Sciences curriculum, policies, and student support initiatives
- Knowledge of university-wide resources and referral processes for student wellness and success
- Proficiency in academic advising systems and tools
Salary Range
$40,000+ depending on qualifications
Working Conditions
