Library Technician

Description

LAC Federal is seeking a Library Technician to provide high-quality interlibrary loan request and technical services to a large intuition. The Technician will be responsible for retrieval of various collection items that are requested through interlibrary loan. The role requires working with equipment to download, scan, and photocopy articles, book chapters, and other published resources in delivery to various requesting institutions via electronic means. The Technician will work in a collaborative team environment to pack, prepare, and ship items requested by other institutions and process returned items. 

Responsibilities:

• Monitor queue of ILL requests to ensure timely completion
• Read and understand bibliographic citations for the materials being requested by other libraries 
• Locate requested items in the library by navigating the stacks
• Identify electronic resources that fulfill ILL requests and download and send requested materials
• Retrieve books, journals, microforms, and AV materials from stacks areas, navigating a large system of shelving on multiple floors 
• Examine physical items to determine whether scanning would negatively impact materials in poor condition
• Scan journal articles, book chapters, and other information from library materials using a flatbed scanner
• Prepare items requested for physical loan to be shipped to the requesting institution via courier 

Requirements

• Minimum of one (1) year of relevant library experience performing the following technical tasks:
• Locating, retrieving, and shelving library materials in library collections by call number
• Scanning books and journals
• Use of a library computer program to track tasks
• Referencing bibliographical citations

Physical Requirements

Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves; lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
