The Perioperative Service Tech acts as the liaison between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing to ensure the efficient and expedient flow of supplies, equipment, and instrumentation between departments. The Perioperative Service Tech works closely with members of the Operating Room, Materials Management, and Sterile Processing teams to initiate, facilitate, and support management of surgical resources. They also serve as the main contact between departments to ensure that supplies, equipment, and instrumentation are available before, during, and after surgical cases. A Brief Overview
The Perioperative Service Tech acts as the liaison between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing to ensure the efficient and expedient flow of supplies, equipment, and instrumentation between departments. The Perioperative Service Tech works closely with members of the Operating Room, Materials Management, and Sterile Processing teams to initiate, facilitate, and support management of surgical resources. They also serve as the main contact between departments to ensure that supplies, equipment, and instrumentation are available before, during, and after surgical cases. What you will do

• Serves as the liaison with Operating Room and Sterile Processing departments to ensure availability of supplies, equipment, and instrumentation for surgical cases.
• Inventories and restocks supplies, equipment, and instrumentation.
• Participates in quality improvement and evaluation activities and implements measures to ensure that hospital, regulatory, and other quality standards are met.
• Maintains principles of aseptic technique according to hospital policy and procedure and AORN standards.
• Recognizes, monitors and responds appropriately to environmental safety factors.
• Performs miscellaneous responsibilities.
• Performs other job functions as requested or assigned.

Education/Formal Training Requirements

• Required - High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Preferred - Technical Degree or Diploma Surgical Technology

Work Experience Requirements

• Required - Healthcare or medical office environment 0-1 years
• Preferred - Operating room and/or sterile processing setting 1-3 years

Licenses and Certifications Requirements

• Required - HEARTSAVER - American Heart Association

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of operating room and sterile processing environment.
• Ability to understand principles and implement basic practices of infection prevention and aseptic technique.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commensurate with education.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions commensurate with education.
• Ability to communicate verbally with others.
• Ability to set priorities, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain control of own and others work flow.

Supervision Provided by this Position

• There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.

Physical Demands

• The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
• Must have good balance and coordination.
• The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 200 lbs. of force frequently.
• The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
• Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
• Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
• Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
