Requirements
  • 10+ years related experience building automation platforms and leading teams. Ideally you have experience with high volume laboratory or sample automation processes
  • Typically requires a minimum of 15 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 12 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 8 years experience. Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
  • Highly collaborative work style and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Background in successfully mitigating risks during development and managing process changes
  • Proven track record of implementing scalable and extensible integrations with LIMS or operational software systems
  • Proven understanding of data provenance, on-prem vs. cloud infrastructure and compliance policies
  • Deep understanding of hardware engineering, custom firmware, and embedded systems
  • Expertise crafting and implementing business process for high-throughput sorting and movement of specimens, labware, or similar items
  • Developing in regulated environments such as FDA, ISO, CAP/CLIA
  • Hands on experience with laboratory automation including integrated systems or workcell concepts, orchestration or scheduling software, liquid handlers including Hamilton systems, Agilent Bravos, Dynamic Devices and others
  • Ability to lead a team through a product life cycle of conception, deployment, maintenance and improvement
Responsibilities
  • Define the technical approach to deliver Invitae's next generation of automated sample and business process flows across multiple product lines
  • Partner with product and project leadership to define requirements and the path to deliver on both platform- and commercial product-focused projects
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define software requirements and scalable interfaces
  • Model and support best practices for technical documentation and reproducibility
  • Design and implement custom hardware and embedded systems solutions as appropriate
  • Mentor and train the next generation of highly skilled automation development engineers
