Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or have an education equivalency for licensing.
  • Have a minimum of one year of registered nurse experience.
  • Hold Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Hold a Registered Nurse license from the Missouri Division of Professional Registration or a Registered Nurse license issued by a compact state.
  • Use speech, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, sitting, reaching, keyboard use, data entry, vision, hearing, and smell as required by the role.
  • Occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 25–50 pounds and occasionally lift or move patients.
  • Be able to perform occasional driving and rare crawling and running.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care in settings where patients require complex assessments and intervention in accordance with established healthcare organization policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Serve as a dialysis clinical resource and supervise care delivered by support staff.
  • Assess daily dialysis patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure quality outcomes for dialysis patients.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of dialysis treatments and identify issues affecting desired patient outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, including collecting data for the dialysis unit’s Quality Assurance Performance Improvement plan, and maintain ownership of regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Respond to complaints about patient care and manage them through established channels.
  • Work with internal and external resources to maintain machine maintenance and partnerships with home dialysis departments.
  • Perform surveillance and testing of dialysis water treatment equipment and dialysis water, including chlorine, pH, and water cultures, to ensure operation within manufacturer guidelines.
  • Apply knowledge of dialysis laboratory tests and dialysis medications.
  • Perform cannulation of dialysis access and provide proper care and use of central lines.
  • Apply infection control practices and prevent transmission of bloodborne pathogens.
  • Provide patient education applicable to the patient’s medical condition.
  • Provide input for hiring, training, directing, developing, and evaluating staff.
  • Apply evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge to medical-surgical nursing practice, ensuring care is based on patient-specific age and clinical needs.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Complete other assigned duties.
  • Work one shift every four weeks and one on-call shift per calendar month.
