Responsibilities
  • Performs specialized and complex experiments/studies
  • Participates in the publication of significant research results
  • Advances expertise through education, training, and research
  • Writes extramural grants/proposals to gain support when appropriate
  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens and tissue cultures
  • Weighs and anesthetizes laboratory animals for experiments
  • Operates sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment
  • Performs calculations to complete research test results
  • Performs photography and dark room processing
  • Participates in training sessions and workshops
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets
  • Prepare and process biological, chemical, or environmental samples for mass spectrometry analysis
  • Operate and maintain LC-MS/MS
  • Perform routine instrument calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance
  • Analyze and interpret mass spectrometry data using specialized software
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records, including sample logs and analytical reports
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and quality assurance standards
  • Collaborate with scientists and researchers to support experimental design and data interpretation
  • Assist in method development and validation for new assays
  • As needed, work with others in the lab on non-MS-related projects, particularly to help complete projects for publication
  • Present results at weekly group meetings
  • Participate in lab maintenance tasks
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related field preferred
  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience with mass spectrometry techniques
  • Familiarity with chromatography systems (e.g., High-Performance Liquid Chromatography, Gas Chromatography) is a plus
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Xcalibur, MassLynx, Analyst)
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
