Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of ten years of professional higher education, academic administrative, development-related, or related work experience are required.
  • Experience leading staff, including providing vision; creating an environment of collaboration, empowerment, and accountability; building and motivating teams; building buy-in around organizational goals; leading teams through change; measuring and managing performance; addressing underperformance; promoting diversity of thought and innovation; and developing processes and policies to optimize effectiveness and productivity is required.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles and the current philanthropic landscape, including best practices, strategies, and policies related to annual and capital or restricted giving, is required.
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills are required to set and monitor progress against goals, develop plans and timelines, and measure success.
  • The ability to develop and foster relationships with stakeholders at all levels across a complex organization and collaborate and influence at a high level is required.
  • The ability to work independently and in teams, maintain high professional standards, exercise sound judgment and discretion, think strategically, act decisively, solve problems without close supervision, respond to changing business needs, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and produce high-quality work under tight deadlines is required.
  • Commitment to the Office of Advancement's mission and adherence to its guiding principles of High Performance, Innovation, Civility, and Collaboration are required.
Responsibilities
  • Work with the Vice President for Advancement and fellow senior advancement leaders to set long- and short-term strategic goals that enhance alumni engagement, philanthropic impact, and the Office of Advancement's effectiveness.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Vice President for Advancement and represent the Vice President and the division as a proxy when appropriate.
  • Provide leadership, coordination, and insight across the University to establish and advance fundraising priorities supporting academic, co-curricular, and capital initiatives.
  • Lead the University-wide process to define, develop, and approve philanthropic priorities, including term support, endowed funds, capital projects, and strategic academic initiatives.
  • Partner with senior administrators, deans, and faculty to build compelling cases for support aligned with institutional aspirations and donor interests.
  • Manage the Fundraising Priorities team and guide the creation of donor-facing materials, briefing documents, presentations, and other assets articulating the University's strategic opportunities.
  • Partner with frontline fundraisers and giving groups to coordinate strategies that maximize philanthropic outcomes for major institutional initiatives.
  • Participate in discussions with senior leadership regarding donor conversations, gift purposes, and proposed terms, and guide prospect managers navigating complex gift opportunities.
  • Ensure alignment and coordination across advancement teams to support donor engagement and gift closure.
  • Oversee development of gift terms and documentation for outright gifts and documented bequest intentions in consultation with senior University partners and the Office of General Counsel.
  • Lead monitoring, updating, and enhancement of the University's Gift Policy Guides to keep gift-related policies and procedures current, consistent, and clear.
  • Collaborate with colleagues within and beyond Advancement to draft policies and determine best practices in gift acceptance, documentation, and counting.
  • Represent University Advancement in governance and planning forums, including the Fundraising Priorities Committee, Fundraising Priorities Working Group, and Facilities Planning Group.
  • Cultivate working relationships with campus leaders and faculty to align fundraising initiatives with the University's mission, aspirations, and operational priorities.
Desired Qualifications
  • An advanced academic degree at the doctoral or master's level, or an advanced degree in another applicable field such as business or law, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the academic mission and university operations is preferred.
