Requirements
  • Completion of a Nurse Aide course and Nurse Aide certification, or documented one-year Nurse Aide experience, or military training equivalent to a Nurse Aide.
  • PCA or PCT certification is acceptable.
  • A current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association must be maintained.
  • For the Nurse Assistant pathway, completion of approximately one quarter of a licensed vocational nursing curriculum and clinical experience is required, evidenced by transcripts and a completed Nurse Aide Skill Validation Form.
  • Nursing Aide Certification is required.
  • The Certified Nurse Aide Technical Procedure Privileging Form must be completed by the end of the three-month probationary period.
  • Age-specific knowledge is required when needed for appropriate patient care.
  • Ability to stand and walk most of the duty period, lift and push patients, carts, and wheelchairs, use tactile sensation to check patients, communicate with patients and staff, and read gauges and thermometers and record information in patient charts.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and various shifts in an indoor environment with high exposure risk to blood-borne pathogens.
Responsibilities
  • Provide quality patient care while adhering to safety practices and proper clinical documentation.
  • Perform specified patient services delegated by a Licensed Nurse.
  • Apply organizational and nursing policies in daily work.
  • Adjust to quality initiatives and changes and contribute to nursing-unit strategic plans.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Contribute to the development of the nursing profession.
  • Interact closely with ancillary departments to support a quality multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

  • One year of previous or recent Nurse Aide experience is preferred.
  • Military training and experience equivalent to a Nurse Aide is preferred.

University medical center opens its Safe Haven Baby Box, 5th in Lubbock. Lubbock Avalanche-Journal On Monday, UMC Health System, in partnership with Safe Haven Baby Boxes and community organizations, dedicated and blessed a Safe Haven Baby Box on its main campus. "Ultimately, the Baby Box provides a safe alternative," said Jill Shanklin, vice president of Nursing Excellence & Maternal-Child Services at UMC Health System. "It demonstrates our commitment to infant health and our support of state Safe Haven (Baby Moses) laws." The fully secured, climate-controlled, and monitored device is located at the east-side entrance of Medical Office Plaza II on UMC Health System's Main Campus - located at 808 Joliet Ave. According to UMC, when an infant is placed inside the Baby Box, the exterior door automatically locks and an alarm immediately notifies on-site Urgent Care personnel with the system, ensuring immediate response, medical evaluation, and compassionate care. After being medically checked, the infant is then placed into protective custody, where arrangements are made for ongoing care or adoption. In addition to the physical safety provided by the baby box, parents have access to a 24-hour crisis hotline, as well as education and support resources. Where are the Safe Haven Baby Boxes located around Lubbock? There are five boxes located around Lubbock.
