Requirements
  • A nursing degree from an accredited college or university, or graduation from an approved Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse program, is required.
  • A current, unencumbered, active Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse license in the state is required.
  • The candidate must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English and read technical procedures and policy and procedure manuals.
  • The candidate must be able to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • The candidate must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to residents’ age-related needs.
  • The candidate must be able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant action and deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the public.
  • The candidate must be knowledgeable about nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines applicable to nursing care facilities.
  • The candidate must have leadership and supervisory ability and be willing to supervise other personnel.
  • The candidate must be able to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures necessary to provide quality care.
  • The candidate must maintain required continuing education and licensing and remain in good standing with the State Board of Nursing.
  • Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification is required.
  • The candidate must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday and push, pull, move, or lift at least 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and carry or move it at least 50 feet.
  • The candidate must be able to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and sometimes hostile people.
  • The candidate must complete the facility’s required medical and physical examination.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants.
  • Direct the day-to-day functions of nursing assistants and ensure nursing personnel comply with facility policies, procedures, job descriptions, and applicable regulations.
  • Plan shift services, programs, activities, work assignments, and staffing needs with assigned nursing and support personnel.
  • Maintain nursing procedures, quality assurance activities, facility survey participation, discharge planning, census reporting, charge slips, medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and other administrative records.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents and complete the required admission, transfer, discharge, accident, incident, and medical-record documentation.
  • Coordinate nursing services with resident services, physicians, social and activity programs, government agencies, families, and other departments.
  • Receive and transcribe physician telephone orders, update resident charts and medication records, and complete informative nursing notes and other required charting.
  • Prepare and administer physician-ordered medications and treatments, verify resident identity, maintain medication and narcotic records, order supplies, and report discrepancies.
  • Review medication cards and physician orders, notify physicians about automatic stop orders, and dispose of drugs and narcotics according to procedure.
  • Conduct rounds, provide leadership to nursing personnel, monitor work assignments and nursing standards, review complaints, and report staffing or problem areas to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Ensure nursing assistants are enrolled in or have graduated from approved training programs and that nurse aide trainees work under licensed-nurse supervision.
  • Orient residents, families, and new employees; participate in staff training, in-service programs, continuing education, and clinical supervision planning.
  • Provide and coordinate nursing care, treatments, rehabilitation, restorative programs, diagnostic and therapeutic services, resident assessments, care plans, MDS activities, and discharge arrangements.
  • Perform catheterization, tube feedings, suctioning, dressing and bandage changes, colostomy and drainage-bag care, specimen collection, vital-sign measurement, monitoring, and range-of-motion exercises as required.
  • Notify physicians and next of kin about accidents, incidents, changes in resident condition, and deaths, and follow post-mortem procedures when required.
  • Inspect and maintain nursing areas, resident-care rooms, treatment areas, equipment, supplies, medication stock, sanitation, safety, infection-control, hand-hygiene, and personal protective equipment practices.
  • Participate in infection-control, fire-safety, disaster-preparedness, hazardous-condition reporting, fraud reporting, quality assurance, and resident care-plan programs.
  • Protect resident and facility information by safeguarding user credentials and protected health information and reporting unauthorized access attempts or disclosures.
  • Attend required training programs and work beyond normal hours or in other positions temporarily when necessary or during emergency conditions.

PACS Group acquires Alaska care facility, plans 150-bed skilled nursing centre by 2028

PACS Group has appointed Carey P. Hendrickson as chief financial officer, effective 27 April 2026. Hendrickson brings nearly four decades of financial leadership across healthcare, senior living and media sectors. Most recently, Hendrickson served as CFO of U.S. Physical Therapy, overseeing 779 outpatient clinics across 44 states. PACS Group has announced that co-founder and chief financial officer Mark Hancock will retire on 30 June 2026. He will continue serving on the company's board of directors as vice chairman. Hancock co-founded PACS in 2013 with Jason Murray, starting with two post-acute care facilities in San Diego. Dr Conway currently serves as CEO of Optum, UnitedHealth Group's health services division with revenues exceeding $200 billion.
