Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree required: Art, Art History, or the Humanities preferred
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a museum registrar’s department with similar duties
  • Knowledge of museum standards and best practices of registration, including art shipping, handling, packing, and installation, conservation and condition reporting, fine art insurance, and collections storage requirements and procedures
  • Ability to work in Adobe and Microsoft suites, and working knowledge of collection management systems (TMS, Argus, Axiell, Qi, etc.)
  • Highly detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to assess priorities, work well under pressure; manage time efficiently, analyze and solve problems independently, and, if necessary, collaboratively
  • Professional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with staff members, trustees, lenders, donors, and volunteers
  • Ability to be flexible and embrace changes within this position due to departmental priorities and/or for cross-training purposes
  • Must be able to visually inspect artwork
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs
  • Must be able to complete short and long hours of travel by plane, truck, or other method of transportation as needed
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Responsibilities
  • Processes internal and external requests for intellectual property rights and reproductions for images of works of art in the museum’s collection and archives for both scholarly or commercial purposes and completes all billing accordingly
  • Obtains non-exclusive copyright licenses for works in the collection
  • As assigned, secures image rights for exhibitions and publications generated by the museum
  • As assigned, completes all required processing for incoming acquisitions including; processing deed of gift/purchase paperwork, coordination of packing and shipping, incoming receipt, and condition report
  • Works with other registrars to add updated collection object information to both digital and paper archives
  • Responsible for all documentation and organization of assigned exhibitions. Including corresponding with lenders and their agents, coordination of loan agreements and insurance; conservation and/or local condition reports, packing, domestic and foreign transportation, customs documentation, and final archiving of documentation both in files and CMS
  • Coordination of courier arrangements: hotel, airfare, itineraries, per diem, etc.
  • With support from the Director of Collections and Exhibitions, completes applications for the following as needed for certain assigned exhibitions: indemnity, immunity from judicial seizure, CITIES and Fish and Wildlife, any other process for the approval of domestic and foreign loans
  • Represents the museum with a high level of integrity and professionalism
  • Adheres to museum policies supporting management decisions in a positive, professional manner, and works collaboratively with all staff
  • Acts as courier for BMA collections and exhibitions, as assigned
  • Maintains confidentiality within and outside the museum
  • Supervises work-study and/or volunteers, as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned.
