The Role
The Health Informatics Specialist will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, integrating and disseminating health and biomedical data. You will use computer science, information science and healthcare to design and develop systems that will improve patient care. The Health Informatics Specialist will have a deep understanding of health information systems, medical terminologies and coding systems, and is adept at analyzing and interpreting complex data sets.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, manage and analyze patient data, using health information technology and data analysis tools.
- Developing health information systems that support the collection, sharing, standardization, and integration of healthcare data.
- Providing technical support, optimizing network security, and maintaining databases.
- Collaborating on improving standards of care, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct training sessions to teach health professionals how to use data systems.
- Implement and maintain health information privacy and security programs.
- Develop and use effective health informatics metrics to measure and improve patient care.
- Stay up to date with latest trends and advancements in health informatics.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to implement effective and efficient health informatics systems.
- Ensure all data management procedures comply with HIPAA and other relevant regulations.
- Keeping abreast of advancements in the field of health informatics.
Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, computer sciences, or a related field.
- A Master’s degree in health informatics preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a health informatics specialist.
- Advanced proficiency in programming languages and EMR software, such as SQL and Epic.
- Exceptional knowledge of health information system design and database management.
- In-depth knowledge of best practices in healthcare information management.
- Superb analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Additional details
- Most projects will have a remote/hybrid model but some may require occasional travel up to 25% of the time
- Special focus given to candidates within the Canadian Atlantic Provinces
