Responsible for the enforcement of institute, state and federal laws and regulations in the protection of life and property in service to the institution's community.

- Must have the physical and mental capabilities to properly carry out responsibilities and duties as a commissioned police officer for the Institution.
- Ability to pass a physical agility test.
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED and successful completion of a TCOLE approved Basic Peace Officer Course and TCOLE exam is required.
- At least sixty (60) college hours from an accredited college or university is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- Successful completion of a formal field-training program is preferred, no experience required.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:
- Must hold a Peace Officer Commission, issued by the Institute and a valid driver's license not subject to suspension.
- Must be eligible to drive institution owned/leased motor vehicle.
- Must meet certain prerequisites established by the Office of the Director of Police, the Board of Regents, and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
- Preserves the peace through the use and execution of all lawful means, interceding when authorized by law, to prevent or suppress crime.
- Patrols buildings and grounds checking locked doors and windows and investigates suspicious activity or individual(s).
- Performs law enforcement functions in the areas of patrol, security, investigations, gang activity prevention, and surveillance.
- Utilizes proper means to ensure the safety and security of people, property and equipment throughout the institution's community.
- Enforces traffic law by detecting violations, making violator contacts, placing violators in custody or issuing citations/warnings.
- Investigates motor vehicle collisions.
- Provides service, information, and directions to students, employees and visitors.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
