Job Description: AVID is a college prep program for underserved middle and high school students. The program works to build and strengthen students’ skills for college preparedness. AVID is built on a core of reading, writing, organization, collaboration, and inquiry. AVID tutors work with small groups of students in a collaborative workshop model to help students solve academic problems. The tutor facilitates an academic conversation in which group members- including the tutor- ask probing questions rather than giving answers. This collaborative model helps students clarify, solidify, and shape their understanding of academic topics. In addition, it builds student agency and teamwork and creates a supportive academic community for students. AVID tutorials take place in the elective classroom with the teacher present.
