Costco's first Medicare partnership targets senior care experience.

Costco's first Medicare partnership targets senior care experience. SCAN Health Plan and Costco announced a partnership to develop Medicare-focused healthcare offerings aimed at improving services and value for seniors. Posted 10:20 AM, Aug 19, 2026 SCAN Health Plan and Costco announced this week an expanded strategic partnership that marks Costco's first collaboration with a Medicare plan. The partnership combines Costco's expertise serving retail consumers with SCAN's experience managing healthcare for seniors. The companies said the collaboration is intended to accelerate practical healthcare solutions that help seniors stay healthy and independent. As part of the partnership, the companies plan to offer a redesigned pharmacy experience, Medflex over-the-counter benefits, vision care, audiology services and other offerings. Both companies emphasized a shared focus on improving quality, value, convenience and customer experience for seniors. "For the millions of older adults who rely on Medicare Advantage, the future of the program depends on strong partnerships that make healthcare more accessible, more connected and more seamlessly integrated into everyday life," said Sachin H. Jain, CEO of SCAN Group and SCAN Health Plan. "Older adults want healthcare that is easier to navigate, more responsive to their needs and rooted in organizations they trust." The companies said the partnership is subject to government approval, and it could take several years before customers can purchase Medicare Advantage plans through Costco.

Costco to sell Medicare Advantage plans. By Bob D'Angelo, Cox Media Group National Content Desk August 19, 2026 at 3:56 am PDT Costco is getting into the Medicare business. The big-box membership retail giant announced plans for a limited rollout of Medicare plans, including Medicare Advantage, The Wall Street Journal reported. Costco will work with SCAN Health Plan, one of the nation's largest nonprofit Medicare Advantage plans that focus on senior health care, according to Fox News. Costco and SCAN will launch a "suite of senior-focused" insurance products over the next few years, the news outlet reported. In some markets, the retailer's insurance products will integrate pharmacy, vision and hearing benefits. https://t.co/tLegWsttwW - The Wall Street Journal (@WSJ) August 18, 2026 The companies said they will sell their jointly named Medicare Advantage products in two states and a Medicare supplement in a third, The Wall Street Journal reported. According to the newspaper, executives from the two companies said the target markets include approximately 5 million Medicare enrollees but did not provide specifics, citing regulatory limits on disclosure until Medicare formally approves the plans. SCAN, based in Long Beach, California, currently serves approximately 460,000 members across 33 counties in Arizona, California, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas and Washington, according to the newspaper. Sachin Jain, chief executive of SCAN, said the plans will integrate with Costco's offerings across prescription drugs, vision, over-the-counter medications and hearing products. "We are trying to create something that's incredibly simple for people to use that will enable them to seamlessly access their benefits," Jain told The Wall Street Journal. The plans will be sold at Costco outlets and also through insurance agents and websites, according to the newspaper. Costco CEO Ron Vachris said that the new partnership will help the company provide its members with more value, Fox News reported. "For more than 40 years, Costco has consistently listened to our members and earned their trust delivering consistent value on essential goods and expanding our health service offerings," Vachris said in a statement. Richard Stephens, senior vice president for pharmacy at Costco, said the retailer sees the new Medicare effort as a pilot program. "We plan to learn a lot from it, and we plan to make sure that we have the right product for our members," Stephens told The Wall Street Journal. The two companies declined to disclose financial details of their partnership. Latest consumer headlines: (C) 2026 Cox Media Group

Costco to launch its own Medicare Advantage plan. California-based nonprofit insurer SCAN and Costco said they would start selling their jointly named Medicare Advantage products in two states and a Medicare supplement in a third. PUBLISHED: August 18, 2026 at 5:25 PM EDT UPDATED: August 18, 2026 at 5:27 PM EDT By Alexis Weisend, The Seattle Times Costco is partnering with a nonprofit to launch its own brand of Medicare. The Issaquah, Washington-based warehouse chain has agreed to work with a California-based nonprofit insurer called SCAN to offer a Medicare Advantage plan that includes a suite of senior-focused insurance products. For Costco, the move means breaking into a Medicare Advantage industry worth more than $500 billion, in which private insurers offer health plans approved by Medicare. And for SCAN, a midsized organization with around half a million members, partnering with Costco means access to millions of Medicare enrollees who use Costco. In a SCAN news release on Tuesday, the nonprofit said the products will integrate with Costco's current prescription, vision, hearing and over-the-counter offerings, which attract seniors. "Older adults want healthcare that is easier to navigate, more responsive to their needs and rooted in organizations they trust," SCAN CEO Sachin H. Jain said in the news release. "Our expanded partnership with Costco will give us a strong foundation to explore new ways to help people stay healthy and independent while delivering the quality, value, and service both of our organizations are known for." According to The Wall Street Journal, SCAN and Costco said they would start selling their jointly named Medicare Advantage products in two states and a Medicare supplement in a third. Combined, the locations will give them access to around 5 million Medicare enrollees, according to The Journal. The companies didn't say when or where the plans would officially roll out. SCAN offers Medicare Advantage plans in six states. In the news release Tuesday, Costco CEO Ron Vachris said the company has developed a shared understanding with SCAN of what matters most to their senior customers. "For more than 40 years, Costco has consistently listened to our Members and earned their trust delivering consistent value on essential goods and expanding our health service offerings," Vachris said. "Selecting SCAN as our partner to deliver a better healthcare experience for seniors, is an extension of that commitment." (C) 2026 The Seattle Times. Visit seattletimes.com.
