Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or related certification preferred.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in accounting roles with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Minimum two years’ experience working at an exempt level in non-profit fund accounting; experience working for a non-profit organization operating multiple programs in various geographical areas preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Accounts Receivable processes, spreadsheets, word processing and Sage Intacct accounting software.
  • Deep knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, including FASB, 2CFR200, and Temporarily Restricted Net Assets (TRNA).
  • Experience working with auditors and a thorough understanding of the relationship between auditors and nonprofit organizations preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks and efficiently allocate and manage time.
  • Proven ability to successfully coach and train team members
  • Strong leadership, managerial, customer service, problem solving, project management, communication, and organizational skills.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee and ensure accounting accuracy in all general ledger systems.
  • Review and perform journal entries, including recurring and adjusting entries.
  • Review and direct all account postings from sub-systems, AP, AR, and Payroll.
  • Manage monthly financial statements ensuring timely production.
  • Oversee indirect cost allocations (understanding and application).
  • Ensure compliance with FASB standards and nonprofit accounting practices.
  • Prepare tax schedules for annual tax filing in coordination with larger team.
  • Responsible for allocating and tracking depreciation, prepaid expenses, deposits, vacation accruals, payroll, and fringe benefit accruals.
  • Support higher-level accounting needs, consolidations, and intercompany eliminating entries.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor accounting staff to ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Manage banking relationships and various bank accounts, including ensuring field staff have tools they need to make purchases.
  • Review and oversee accounts receivable processes to ensure timely collection and accurate reporting.
  • Produce multiple cash flow forecasting by site/cost center and funding source.
  • Protect business assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls and policies.
  • Oversee grant accounting, including compliance with 2CFR200 and other federal, state, and private funding requirements.
  • Track and report on Temporarily Restricted Net Assets (TRNA), ensuring proper release of restrictions.
  • Reconcile all AP activities on general ledger and perform draw requests under all grants.
  • Ensure financial compliance reports required for funders are produced and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Partner with the CFO to lead the financial portion of compliance and partner with other staff on grant tracking to the general ledger.
  • Oversee and maintain depreciation schedules and ROU (Right-of-Use) assets in accordance with GAAP.
  • Suggest and implement improvements to processes and systems.
  • Assist with collections, when necessary; other duties as assigned.
