Requirements
  • Hold a valid medical degree (M.D. or D.O.)
  • Completed an approved psychiatric residency
  • Board-eligible or board-certified in general adult psychiatry
  • Licensed to practice medicine without restrictions within the state of Oregon
  • Maintain a valid individual federal DEA certification
  • Up to date CPR certification
  • Legally eligible to work in the US
Responsibilities
  • Perform psychiatric assessments through direct observation, interviews, review of prior records, laboratory and imaging results, and medical history
  • Provide direct psychiatric services to an identified population of mentally ill offenders
  • Assess the need for and prescribe appropriate psychotropic medication
  • Manage side effects and other adverse reactions of medications
  • Complete clinical documentation in a timely manner using standard SOAP format
  • Help ensure medication continuity by monitoring release dates for patients on their caseload
  • Prepare reports and testify as an expert witness when appropriate

  • Treating affective illness and distress, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, substance use/abuse, persistent mental illness, and survivors of sexual assault
  • Therapeutic treatments, use of examination instruments, and administration of medications with an emphasis on psychotropic medications
  • Psychiatric assessment, including mental status examinations, laboratory tests, and other diagnostic procedures
  • Developing and modifying treatment plans, including further diagnostic studies, therapy, patient education, and identification of parameters for follow-up
  • Critical thinking, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions
  • Working with aggressive, abusive, or combative patients
  • Communicating orally and in writing with a variety of individuals ranging from health care professionals to laypersons
