Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • Kelso's nationwide MEP platform can cross-sell Automated Mechanical into controls and electrical projects.
  • Its bio-med, lab refrigeration, and building automation niches match higher-value recurring maintenance work.
  • The 2023 Kelso sale gives capital for hiring, equipment upgrades, and tuck-in acquisitions.

What critics are saying

  • Kelso Industries already owns Automated Mechanical, so 2026 integration can erase autonomy.
  • Limited public visibility after the 2023 buyout hides performance, margins, and customer concentration.
  • Utah regional dependence leaves revenue exposed if local contractors win larger service accounts.

What makes Automated Mechanical unique

  • Ogden-based since 2005, Automated Mechanical sells commercial HVAC plus mechanical services.
  • Its 24-hour service calls and emergency repairs differentiate it on uptime-critical facilities.
  • Kelso Industries kept Damon Shuman and leaders as partners after the 2023 acquisition.
