Why we need you

Mandolin’s growth curve is steep: every new customer pushes fresh data formats, approval rules, and throughput targets. To keep pace, we need a rock-solid backend platform that:

• adapts to wildly different clinic and payer workflows via configuration, not code forks;

• scales from a single site to nationwide networks; and

• stays compliant in one of the most regulated industries on earth.

You’ll architect that foundation—turning a fast-moving codebase into a modular, multi-tenant platform that other engineers can extend in days, not sprints.

What you’ll do

• Design the core services – Define the APIs, data contracts, and plugin framework that let product teams drop new customer workflows into place without rewrites.

• Build for multi-tenancy – Implement tenancy, partitioning, and routing layers that isolate data, guarantee SLA boundaries, and satisfy compliance auditors.

• Orchestrate workflows – Use Temporal, Camunda, or similar engines to run thousands of long-lived, fault-tolerant jobs per customer.

• Raise the reliability bar – Own observability, graceful degradation, and performance guardrails that keep clinics online around the clock.

• Accelerate dev velocity – Establish testing, CI/CD, and code-review standards, and mentor engineers on scalable platform patterns.

• Partner across functions – Work with ML, data, and security teams to expose clean interfaces and ensure end-to-end traceability.

Must-have experience

• 7 + years building and scaling backend systems in Node.js / TypeScript (or comparable stacks).
  Architectural ownership of a multi-tenant SaaS or platform serving diverse customer requirements.

• Deep knowledge of API design, event-driven or microservice patterns, and high-throughput data stores.

• Hands-on expertise with workflow orchestration frameworks (Temporal, Camunda, Airflow, etc.).

• Track record of shipping resilient, observable services in production and leading incident retros.

• Passion for codifying best practices and coaching engineers through complex refactors.

Nice-to-haves

• Production experience in regulated domains (healthcare, fintech, or similar).

• Designing audit-ready security controls—encryption, RBAC, immutable logs.

• Building config-driven or DSL-based extension systems.

• Familiarity with GCP, service meshes, and zero-downtime deployment strategies.
