Requirements
  • Schedule requires starting work at 5:00 AM EST with four 10-hour shifts per week (Monday through Saturday rotating shifts; two Saturdays required per month) and potential to work until 9:30 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday as a possible third shift.
  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program and follows all regulatory and facility policy requirements.
  • Functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with FMCNA policies and regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies.
  • Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
  • Participate in Quality Enhancement Program and CQI activities related to patient satisfaction and process improvement.
Responsibilities
  • Assist other health care members in providing patient specific education regarding adequacy measures such as Online Clearance Monitoring, Adequacy Monitoring Program, Urea Kinetic Modeling, and disease process/access.
  • Welcome assigned patients and inquire about their well-being since last treatment; report complaints or observations to the nurse supervisor.
  • Evaluate vascular access for patency and report unusual findings to the nurse supervisor.
  • Obtain pre and post treatment vital signs and weight; report unusual findings to the nurse supervisor.
  • Perform vascular access evaluation pre-treatment and report unusual findings to the nurse supervisor.
  • Perform vascular access cannulation and report any difficulties or unusual findings to the nurse supervisor.
  • Perform administration of Heparin as delegated or as allowed by state law.
  • Initiate dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders including blood flow and dialysate flow.
  • Evaluate intradialytic problems and provide intervention as prescribed by physician order or as directed.
  • Monitor patients’ response to dialysis therapy and report any unusual findings to nurse supervisor.
  • Obtain vital signs prior to reinfusion and complete discharge documentation.
  • Discontinue dialysis treatment according to established procedures.
  • Evaluate patient prior to termination of venous access with standing and sitting blood pressure.
  • Obtain hemostasis and apply appropriate dressings.
  • Evaluate the patient prior to discharge and report any unusual findings to nurse supervisor.
  • Perform and record Pre and Post dialysis evaluation, weight and vital signs with initial identification.
  • Calculate and enter dialysis machine programming for Ultrafiltration, treatment time, Sodium modeling, and UF modeling as prescribed.
  • Ensure safety alarms are enabled, including Narrow Venous Limits 160.
  • Record accurate and timely information regarding vital signs and treatment parameters onto the Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet.
  • Document all patient treatment information including Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes.
  • Report significant information or changes in patient condition to the nurse supervisor.
  • Observe patient and conduct machine safety checks; report changes or unusual findings to the nurse supervisor.
  • Perform interventions for unusual patient status and document response.
  • Evaluate vascular access during treatment including arterial and venous pressures; document and report unusual findings.
  • Obtain prescribed laboratory testing and prepare specimens for collection.
  • Maintain environmental integrity and aesthetics; keep area safe and clean.
  • Clean and disinfect dialysis machine surfaces, chairs, equipment between treatments.
  • Prepare for dialysis treatment and document as appropriate.
  • Perform pretreatment dialysis machine alarm testing including Pressure Holding.
  • Initiate Solution Delivery System system.
  • Ensure blood spills are cleaned with appropriate disinfectant.
  • Prepare, organize, and utilize supplies to prevent wastage.
  • Complete and document ongoing participation in Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
  • Enter all treatment data into the designated clinical application accurately and promptly.
  • Review treatment sheets for completeness and ensure nursing signatures and entries are complete.
  • Prepare initial patient chart for admission and compile paperwork for chart placement.
  • Prepare lab requisitions and collect lab specimens per specifications.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous patient care experience in a hospital setting or related facility is preferred.
  • CPR certification as part of required training.
