dmg::media is seeking a an experienced and talented QA Data Engineer to join a rapidly expanding Data Engineering function within one of the world’s biggest Publishers. We’re looking for a highly skilled QA Data Engineer who’ll act as a testing specialist within the wider data engineering team, ensuring the accuracy of our large-scale data pipelines as well as quality & integrity of outputs.

The QA Data Engineer will write testing plans and routines, manage continuous integration and regression testing processes, and be the point person for clearing data for release according to delivery specifications. The engineer must be able to function effectively in a high-volume, rapid delivery environment. We are looking for someone who considers themselves to be an excellent team player, a creative thinker with a positive attitude. This role will play a critical part in supporting dmg::media to continue its journey to develop a cutting edge data platform on next-generation technology – for competitive advantage.

The role will report directly to the Lead Data Engineer with whom you’ll work closely, alongside with a team of Senior Data Engineers. You’ll work across a number of cloud technologies, especially Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform & Databricks.

The ideal candidate will be a talented QA Data Engineer who is proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following:

Main Responsibilities

• Become immersed within our data domain and implement solid test strategies.
• Partner with data engineers to ensure the Data Engineering team deliver high quality products, services and data assets for applications ranging across the dmg::media enterprise.
• Apply sound testing principles in developing data services & pipelines, appreciating potential impact to processing times and cost.
• Own, lead and innovate in the design and enhancement of our testing capabilities.
• Review and analyse requirements, specifications, and technical design documents, providing timely feedback.
• Take part in code reviews and maintaining high quality data services that produce tangible business value.
• Develop operational standards and deploy modern data processing techniques, such as the latest data quality frameworks and DevOps practices.
• Develop detailed, comprehensive, and well-structured test plans and test cases.
• Prioritize and plan testing activities.
• Design, develop, and execute automated tests.
• Identify and report issues found, then verify that issues are resolved.
• Perform regression testing.

Person Specification

• Prior experience in QA and testing (data, regression, automation, defect).
• Working knowledge of a testing frameworks. Ability to quickly understand domains and develop a test strategy.
• Experience of testing multiple integrated data systems, Microsoft Azure & Databricks.
• Hands-on experience of testing in system, integration testing phases.
• Prior experience in testing Cloud based data solutions, preferably Microsoft Azure.
• Strong SQL skills to carry out data validations. A proven background with SQL databases (Relational, Snowflake, etc.)
• Experience in design, development & maintenance of manual and automation test scripts.
• Good working knowledge of waterfall and a deep, holistic understanding of Agile.
• Experience in Agile delivery techniques, processes, practices, and tooling.
• Sufficient level of technical background to provide highly-credible scrum management to data engineering teams and to be able to accurately and objectively evaluate complex risks and issues.
• Experienced knowledge of a programming language (Python, etc.)
• Knowledge of Big Data systems (Spark, Hadoop, Pig, etc.)
• Knowledge of agile methodologies and continuous delivery (including continuous deployment tools)
• A problem solver, with an eye for detail and a keen focus on data quality.
• Knowledge of structured or custom ETL/ELT management
• Knowledge of “Big Data”/NoSQL platforms and services (Druid, MongoDB, Kafka)
