Requirements
  • Three to seven years of relevant experience working in the construction industry.
  • A minimum of three years of estimating experience.
  • Experience working with the Doors, Frames, and Hardware scope of work.
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace within time constraints while maintaining professional composure and ensuring timely follow-up.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with team members, clients, and vendors, including the ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Exceptional skills with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Fluency in reading, quantifying, and analyzing construction drawings for Doors, Frames, and Hardware scopes.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all aspects of proposals, including the budget and estimate, labor, logistics, and project schedule, in adherence to contract documents.
  • Delegate and review structural, architectural, civil, landscape, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical plans, specifications, and soils reports.
  • Prepare quantity surveys to ensure a complete and qualified scope.
  • Contact suppliers in a timely manner and review quotations for current pricing.
  • Evaluate equipment quotations from vendors.
  • Participate in project-team meetings to review preliminary estimates and discuss production rates and formwork systems.
  • Lead required interdepartmental meetings and handoffs for assigned projects.
  • Review and approve estimate labor productions, equipment productions, materials, and subcontractor pricing with the Chief Estimator.
  • Finalize estimates in job-cost format for insertion into the project accounting system and tracking actual production rates.
  • Maintain the cost and production history database and specialties database in the estimating program system, and ensure Project Estimators update them as necessary.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with clients, peers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Conduct an initial plan review, participate in the project kickoff meeting, and develop a thorough understanding of each project.
  • Review the prime contract in its entirety and ensure that requirements and obligations are understood and addressed through project controls, documentation, and procedures.
  • Develop the project chart of accounts using standard cost codes.
  • Create the master project schedule and adjust material deliveries, change orders, and other project milestones to adhere to the schedule; inform the project team of schedule changes.
  • Create and execute purchase orders and maintain the purchase-order log according to standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct ongoing plan reviews of document revisions, bulletins, and deltas, and maintain a thorough understanding of project documents.
  • Prepare the safety plan in coordination with the Field Safety Manager, lead by example in adhering to it, and implement safety procedures throughout the project.
  • Manage project costs, budgets, billings, and financials, and report costs monthly to the Vice President of Operations and, in some cases, the client.
  • Manage closeout of subcontractor contracts according to standard procedures.
  • Supervise and develop direct reports on the preconstruction team while collaborating with operations team members.
  • Stay apprised of new construction products and methods.
  • Attend training and industry-related events to obtain and bring innovation into the company.
Desired Qualifications
  • OSHA 10 or 30 Certification is a plus.
  • A degree in Construction Management or a related field, or a combination of relevant construction experience and education.
  • Experience with Software For Hardware or another related specialty program.
  • Desire to teach and mentor Junior Estimators, Project Engineers, and Field employees for the growth and future success of the company.
