What to expect:

This is a 6-month contract full-time, temp-to-perm development engineer role at our client’s facility in Devens, MA.

Our client collaborates with local universities to leverage decades of research combined with groundbreaking new high-temperature superconducting magnets that will enable compact fusion power plants that can be constructed faster and at a lower cost. Our client’s mission is to deploy these power plants to meet global decarbonization goals as fast as possible.

The Senior Supplier Development Engineer’s role is to partner with different business units, such as design engineering, quality, and procurement, to best understand which suppliers are struggling to achieve rates, hit certain quality requirements, and provide consistent products.

What you’ll do:

Be comfortable going into any machine shop and knowing what needs to be fixed and having a strong project management mentality to report and hold people to dates and backup plans.

Conduct root cause and corrective actions, and 8Ds.

Design for Manufacturing support and challenging drawing releases that make little sense.

Present complex topics to senior leadership as well as external suppliers.

Travel locally to vendors around Massachusetts, ideally, they are nearby.

Work in a facility that contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes,

Physically be on-site at vendors for long periods.

Be a Change Agent - identifying gaps in processes, articulating what needs to be done to close those gaps, and holding vendors accountable with concrete timelines.

Present on complex topics to leadership and external suppliers.

Negotiate internally and externally at high levels or with persons of influence frequently.

Design and develop required process controls and quality plans.

Process capability studies and Measurement Systems Analysis

Coach and collaborate with a cross-functional team of manufacturing, design, and operations engineers to establish a high-quality manufacturing line.

Drive cost reduction projects including planning, coordinating with stakeholders, estimating completion, and project updates.

Establish preferred suppliers by category. Create and implement related management programs to develop, continuously improve, manage the performance of, and monitor KPIs of the supply base.

Adhere to all supply chain policies, procedures, guidelines, and instructions including those regarding the procurement of materials, intellectual property, and export compliance.

What you’ll need:

Bachelor’s Degree Required

Have strong communication practices, updates, succinct, a true SME that can answer any concerns.

Ability to inspect parts using different measurement tools and interpret inspection reports.

Have a strong understanding of GD&T, reading drawings, helping coach vendors on inspection practices, Gage R&Rs

At a minimum, 7+ years’ experience in Supply Chain

Experience in a manufacturing environment.

Experience performing advanced technical activities such as Product (e.g., Machining) and Special Processes (e.g., Plating, Heat treatment, Welding)

Experience performing advanced technical activities such as Supplier Assessments & Audits, including Quality Management Systems (e.g., ISO 9001, AS 9100, IATF 16949)

Experience using specialized quality tools such as PPAP (PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA) capacity analysis and Lean Six Sigma initiatives.

Ability to design, establish, and implement supplier quality improvement processes and procedures.

Magnet manufacturing experience

Six Sigma Certification preferred (Yellow, Green, or Black)

Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call.

Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.

Must be able to pass a background check.
