Requirements
  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Registered General Nurse.
  • A minimum of one year of post-qualification hospital nursing experience.
  • Previous experience in ophthalmology, theatre, general surgery, ward nursing, or outpatient care.
  • A flexible approach to bank shifts.
  • Ability to travel between Wetherby, York, and Bradford sites when required.
Responsibilities
  • Support patients throughout their ophthalmic care pathway.
  • Provide pre-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative care.
  • Assist with surgical lists, theatre flow, and ward-based patient care.
  • Provide clear instructions and reassurance to patients and carers.
  • Administer medication and treatments in line with Nursing and Midwifery Council standards and local policies.
  • Use clinical judgement to identify concerns requiring consultant or surgeon input.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records.
  • Support infection prevention, clinical governance, and patient safety standards.
  • Work closely with consultants, theatre teams, nurses, and wider clinical colleagues.
  • Help maintain a calm, professional, and caring patient experience.
