Requirements
  • Completion of a 3-year Engineering Technician program accredited by OACETT or an equivalent credential.
  • An Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology.
  • Three to four years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of how to operate basic test equipment.
  • Knowledge of safe practices and the ability to follow safety practices.
  • Ability to move equipment with assistance or independently.
  • Ability to interact with internal and external customers with guidance.
  • Ability to use a variety of equipment to perform daily tasks.
  • Ability to perform shift work when required.
Responsibilities
  • Complete work orders to ensure projects can be closed and improve timely project completion.
  • Maintain good housekeeping, take care of safety, and use personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Set up and operate test equipment and perform tests within the assigned product area.
  • Determine compliance with requirements and recommend the granting of certification.
  • Carry out specialized testing when required.
  • Perform tests in accordance with issued work orders and conduct routine tests independently.
  • Assist with complex or unusual tests under the guidance of senior staff or a job holder, including re-examination, audits, and investigation tests.
  • Record technical data, draft reports, and write product descriptions.
  • Perform mathematical calculations to summarize test results and relate results to product specifications.
  • Act as a liaison with other departments as required by the Product Group Manager.
  • Assemble and disassemble test samples and connect laboratory test equipment in preparation for testing.
  • Note and record product discrepancies and refer them to the Product Group Manager, Certifier, or Senior Laboratory Technician.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas after testing and complete assigned laboratory clean-up duties.
  • Purchase tools or equipment from outside shops when required.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Manager.

CSA opens lab to test medical-grade PPE

TORONTO – CSA Group has announced the opening of an accredited, special-purpose laboratory dedicated to testing and certifying the safety of medical-grade PPE. Until now, there have been no domestic providers of testing and certification services for medical-grade PPE.
